I found royal purple 10w-40, for 8 bucks a quart, at the local auto parts store. This is not motorcycle specific, but states on the bottle that it can be used in any 4 cycle engines. I have had it in the bike 4 about 500 miles now. No complaints so far. Anyone else using royal purple car oil, in their bike? | ||

It should also have a JASO-MA spec to be compatible with your clutch... | ||

The big thing to worry about is friction modifiers. They put them in car oil to help improve fuel economy and engine life, but on a bike like the 1125R, the engine oil lubricates the clutch. These friction modifiers can ruin the clutch plates. | ||

I used RP in my M2 and thought it sucked. it leaked passed the valve guide seals and smoked like a bitch when starting it after a spell. The syn oils I use don't smoke. RP blows chunks and would never use it in any bike. | ||

I made the mistake of putting Valvoline 10w40 "Motorcycle" oil in my '03 Yamaha FZ1. The clutch would slip when I dumped it during hard acceleration. I went back to using Yamalube 20w40 oil and cured the slipping clutch. Lesson learned, use what's recommended for the bike. Nothing but Screamin' Eagle Syn 3 for my 1125R. | ||

in my honda i also had good results with 10-40w diesel oil. although yesterday i bought 3qts of mobile one 10-40w 4t motorcycle lube and changed out the oil. was less than thrilled with the amount of stuff on the magnet and the amount of stuff i could see in the oil itself when i drained it | ||

I have used Castrol Syntec 10W-40 non-jaso oil in my FZR600R and not had any clutch problems. As far as Royal Purple goes, in my testing so far, the viscosity of AMSOIL AMO 10W-40 held up much better than Royal Purple 10W-40 in our Land Rovers and AMO is marketed as wet clutch compatible. http://hildstrom.com/projects/oil/ (Message edited by hildstrom on July 08, 2010) | ||

I run Red Line 10W-40 in Loretta and 20W-50 in the Uly. I was going to go to 20W-50 for the Summer but decided to leave her with 10-40, she likes it. Z | ||

Avoiding friction modifiers is important but they only exist in 30w or thinner oils. Any 40w or 50w shouldn't have modifiers and be wet clutch safe regardless of whether or not it is motorcycle specific. I have logged many thousands of miles using mobil1 15w50 with no problems whatsoever. In my opinion, 10w40 might be a bit thin for an 1125r. I used mobil clean 5000 10w40 for breakin on my 1125 and it had sheared down to close to 30w after 650 miles. (I sent it in for analysis and it came back good aside from the low viscosity). Granted that's non synthetic but I think any oil will probably take some abuse in an 1125 and shear down a bit. | ||

I use the Royal Purple Max Cycle High Performance cycle & ATV oil which is wet clutch compatable, it is 20-50 synthetic oil. My engine runs cooler, and quiter and gets better fuel mileage when it is in the bike. About $14.00 a qt. But stator went out twice and each time it was taken out and HD oil put back in. | ||

I just don't understand on how people spend $6-10-12 grand on a motorcycle and Nickel and dime over a few quarts of oil ???? I don't care what the best oil possible costs per quart after I spent thousands of dollars on my bike . Just my opinion ...... | ||
