Well over the weekend I replaced both tires, changed primary case oil and did a good deep cleaning on the bike. 07 XB12ss. So took it for a test run and it runs great as usual. But I noticed a little line of oil coming out of the shift lever(foot lever). The manual shows the break down for the whole part but doesnt say how to change the seal. Does it press in from the outside, as I think it does or do I have to take the case apart and do it from the inside-out? I have several of the seals on hand and it looks to simple just to pop the old out and slid the new in. But I hope it is. Thanks for the help, Redfive. Just as a side not, it wasnt leaking before I did the tires and the primary oil change. I went from the HD oil to the Mobil I vtwin, which is the oil I run in the crank as well. |

The seal presses in from the outside. You should be able to get the old one out with an O-ring pick or something similar. A good trick I've used (not my invention) to install the new seal is to cut the corner out of a plastic sandwich bag. Put it over the end of the shaft. Give the new seal a light coating of grease or oil, then push it over the bag corner onto the shaft. Seat the seal with a socket wrench or something similar. Gently pull the bag out of the seal and off the shaft. This keeps the splines on the shaft from boogering up the seal lip when you install it. |
