I just picked up my 2003 XB9S today with the race kit installed. My ecm does not have Race Use Only stamped on it. The dealer says it is definitely part of the race kit. The bike was running fine when I test road it. I had them get a race ecm from the parts department to see if it was the same part # as in the bike. My part # is 32001-02 02917. The part # of the race ecm from the parts department had Race Use Only stamped on it with the part # 32001-02 xxxxx. The last 5 digits were not the same. I had them install the parts departments ecm into the bike. The bike would not idle at all. Took it for a ride and it ran horrible. The tech tried to hook up the scanalizer but it would not read anything. He reinstalled the original ecm and the bike seems to run fine. The filter is the K&N filter. Can anybody enlighten me why this might be and is my part # the stock ecm? Thanks for any help. Michael FLHRCI_00 XB9S_03 Long Island, NY

Blake! Ready to say that when you "reset the TPS" you don't reset the TPS? Michael... the race ECM requires that you get the TPS reset If you don't reset the TPS, the bike won't run. If the bike was running without a TPS reset, then I doubt you got a race ECM. The instructions are here somewhere... I will look around post the link.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/15248.html#POST123411 XB TPS for sure. Your link looks like it has the wrong value (5.8) for the XB's. Could be for the tube framers. |

<I had them install the parts departments ecm into the bike. The bike would not idle at all.> My understanding is you don't reset or zero the TPS you just tell the ECM what value to accept as zero from the TPS. It's really the ECM that gets reset. Did they "reset TPS" when they installed the parts dept ECM. If not, I would not expect bike to run properly. Each ECM when installed must be "taught" what the TPS considers "zero". The old ECM had already been taught. So reinstalling it was no problem, But was the part dept unit ever "educated" via scanalyzer? |

The tech. tried to hook up the scanalyzer with the parts dept.'s ECM but it would not read correctly. He thinks that the ECM was bad. This is possible that it was bad. Like I said before I am not sure have the race ECM installed at this point. All i know is that it does not have FOR RACE USE ONLY on it anywhere. The bike is running great so far but if I paid for a race ecm I should get it or get my money back. I hope somebody here can help with this. The dealer here does not know what he is talking about. This all started when I ask for the original parts and he only gave me a muffler and air filter. When I asked for the stock ECM he said that there is only one ECM and that the original gets remapped. I proceeded to show him the parts catalog that shows the kit with the Race ECM as part of the kit. This dealer has 2 stores and the kit was put on at the other store a few months ago. I will be going to the other store this weekend to try to get this settled. |

I just talked to a Buell parts guy. No "FOR RACE USE ONLY" stamp, means you got the standard ECM. No need to look for part numbers. |

Where there any race ecm's that do not have this. My dealer is insisting that this is the right part. He insists that the bike would not run at all with the stock ECM in it as others have said it will. This is his only reason that he is using that it is the correct one. Not that there were some older parts that did not have 'FOR RACE USE ONLY". Michael FLHRCI_00 XB9S_03 Long Island, NY |
