Hmmm.. I noticed on a long(ish) freeway journey that the "sound" of the bike had changed, it was louder (exhaust/induction) and not in a good way.

It was bad enough for me to put the baffle into the Barker and that quietened the exhaust note and I thought that was "it" (maybe the Barker needs repacking)..

Today i couldn't help but feel that the bike was down on torque, not that I wheely at all but the front end always lifts a little under hard acceleration - just not today.

I had a chance to open her up a bit on the way home and found that it felt a LOT down on both torque and HP, and the induction noise is MUCH louder. In fact the induction noise is louder than the exhaust noise now.

There was a definate lack of low/mid range and a deep "rumble" from the airbox, peak power feels very much lower too, very poor.

The engine's no more noisy than normal (it's always been a bit "clattery" but I think they all do that).

I'll whip the airbox off in a bit to see if there's anything "up" under there, anyone have any other thoughts on where to look?

I did a 300 mile ride on the bike on the weekend and it was perfectly behaved..so this is quite a sudden change and that induction noise sounds "wrong"

1400 miles total, and apart from the K&N and the Barker it's stock.

The Erik Buell Racing ECM is being delivered tomorrow apparently : ) but I'd like to get it running how it was before swapping to that (if possible)

Cheers for the responses : )

Just a guess, it's adjusted the AFV's, that might be a place to look. Check the diagnostic mode, there might be an error in there and also see what the AFV's are at. Odds are, if they're split a ways apart, that could be the issue.

Good call Dean - especially as i forgot to mention I have been getting a lot of "Front O2 Sys Error" messages over the past few weeks.

I'll check the values, but will take the front value with a pinch of salt as i think the sensor's on the fritz..

Lots of historic codes, LFL, Sidestand, FR O2 Sensor...all pretty much as expected.

AFV Values are a concern. Front 100 Rear 90.

That isn't a huge gap but I wonder why the rear is so low?

OK I think I found the issues:

The rubber hose on the RH side of the airbox had slid down and was impeding full throttle.. That's one option.

The more likely culprit is this:

It looks as though the Barker needs repacking already (~1000 miles, 200 of them running the bike in). i put the baffle in for a trip away this weekend and when removing it a lot of wadding came out with it..and now the inner baffle is rattling inside the can..

That's explain the lack of torque and as the wadding was wrapped tight around the baffle I suspect it was inhibiting the exhaust gas flow and creating back pressure, which would explain the airbox sounds and the AFV values..

Anyone else had to repack their Barker?

Yep, that could do it! I had a can on my S3T that the baffle collapsed and the packing stuffed the outlet. 2nd time I tried to start it after running crappy it shot a wad of packing out with a BOOM and a flame!

Um...the O2 sensor is a pretty vital part of the EFI system. If it's out of whack the computer doesn't have a "sniffer" for that cylinder, so it can't adjust the AFV properly.

You may only be showing a 10% variance...but reality could be WAAAAY off. Check your plugs for an accurate read on the mix in the front.

Yeah, I agree... it's a very intermittant problem, the code was historic and it only comes on after about 5-10 mins of "vigarous" riding, it's not an issue if I ride gently and didn't come on at all during my 300 mile trip this weekend.
The dealer couldn't get it to replicate so wouldn't swap it out last time I took it in, I'll be a bit more demanding next time (after I repack the exhaust)

Jules the Rear cylinder head is fed more fuel do to no air travel. So it is ran richer than the front I was getting the a/f ratio offset till i put the Erik Buell Racing Ecm in mine.
ps Erik Buell Racing has a Barker Spec. Tune now I got 2 weeks of Riding before my voltage regulator crapped out Runs 150% better on the race Ecm(road it to the shop on the stock ECM it was misrable)

Thanks Rob, my Erik Buell Racing ECM arrived yesterday, it took about 4 weeks to get here (held up in customs) so unfortunately I bought it before the Barker specific one came out, but that's no biggie I'm sure it'll be fine anyway.

Sorry to hear about the Regulator, my revised stator harness has arrived at the dealers so I need to pop in and get that fitted and pick up the spare sidestand spring etc.

I'll wait to get my shiny new Barker before I fit the ECM though...Probably oughn't ride the bike until I sort that out so fingers crossed it's not held up in customs again LOL
