The system is a piggy back. Dreamed up by some software dork. Uses a calculation between speed sensor and engine rpm, but with the clutch pulled in it can't give an answer. Old system off a old Suzuki that worked off the end of the shifter drum is better. Short answer: nope | ||

Froggy was correct put it in neutral. This is much better for the bike in so many ways. | ||

Actually, you can fool it if you slip the clutch a bit. There should be a section of clutch travel where the ECU thinks it's engaged, and it's slipping a bit - think coming out of a low speed corner in 2nd, a *bit* slow for 2nd, but not slow enough for 1st, and you slip the clutch a tiny bit for a few seconds until you're moving fast enough. It'll display 1st while you're doing this. If you are in this realm, the gear indicator lies. | ||

LOL, I wonder about some of you guys! The reason I ask is sometimes I get out of 5th gear when coming up to a stop I sometimes find myself in second instead of first which can be tricky and dangerous at the same time, leaving a stop with someone coming up on my arss. I just wasnt sure if you could bypass the clutch engagement so the dang thing wouldnt know the clutch was in and would give the gear reading at all times. | ||

just keep tapping it down till it stops. when in first it won't travel down at all. Funny never had a bike with a gear indicator and i really like it for some reason it does give you that little extra piece of mind . | ||

its ironic to me that the gear indicator doesn't work with the clutch pulled in, because that is when i need it the most. | ||

I keep my display on the one with voltage. There's only one gear that I worry about, and it's a choice of 2 gears - am I in the right gear, or the wrong one? If you train your foot, you can feel the stutter-click with the extra little notch going down through neutral into first. And as noted above - once you're in first, it just won't go down any further. |
