heres my question i have a really nice 08 1200r sportster with alot of accessories on it . I had it for sale to buy a Kawasaki Versys but now i have someone wanting to trade me an 09 1125r for it . The 1125 is like brand new 380 miles 20 months of the factory warranty left . Should i trade i like it but it seems to have alot of problems from what i've read on this forum and others . |

the only problem the R has is that HD stopped the production and the HD service. |

I think the 1125R is to small room wise to ride any significant distance two up, unless you and the passenger are MotoGP size people. Solo sport touring it's great, and will blow your mind coming off a Sportster |

razorbacksrule, I would do it. I have a sportster and can tell you that the 1125 is an amazing upgrade. Also, remember on forums all you see is the bad, you don't see the 99% of the other riders that are out riding and having fun. There are people that have over 50k miles on their 1125's. |

Thats what i figured talked to the service manager at local HD dealer he said they were good bikes . Hes a friend of mine and would tell me straight up if he had seen problems . |

No machine is perfect, but the good news is any potential issues are well documented on here, so you aren't likely to run into a snag that couldn't be quickly resolved. The dealer network/HD is the biggest weakness of the bike, as long as you have a good dealer in the event you need warranty work, you will be fine. |

The 1125 is crazy fast but I find the power more manageable because of the way V twin power applys vs inline 4. |

I think the power of my Blast is overkill, so the 1125R is thermonuclear |

yea i traded my sporty in for an 1125R. You'll love it...more flickability, much much more power, better handling, smoother in the bars. Tough on the body though if you've only ridden cruisers. i've gotten used to it though. |

I'm going to ride it thursday morning still not sure if its the bike for me . Its really trick for sure but i was looking for a more upright riding position . I really like my buds Kawasaki Versys guess i'll wait and ride it to form my own opinion . |

Razorbacksrule you can swap the lightning footpegs, triple clamps and find a set of bars that clear the fairing, if you want a more upright riding position. I've done that to mine but still have some cosmetic things to finish off. I've ridden it from Vancouver to Calgary (the long way HWY1) about 11 hours |

The 1125R (R) for racing. Is meant for one up sportbike type riding or racing. You will have to change it to suit your comfort for two up touring. In my opinion, you never see track bikes with bags or luggage racks, bad idea!! You need a sport tourer. |

I've seen some pics of it with luggage on it did'nt look bad . I don't ride as far as i used too probably stop every hour or so . I think i could throw a tank bag on it and some soft luggage and do fine . More worried about two up although my wife is small and never complains shes a trooper for sure . |

I ride two-up frequently with absolutely no complaints from the passenger. I sold my 1200 Sportster Sport and bought the 1125r. I've had absolutely no problems with the bike...none. Sounds like you have a decent deal in front of you! |

Taking into consideration your questions, I think the Versys or a VStrom are more what you are looking for. They have a sportier ride, decent power but also have a more upright position and passenger accommodations. The R is a purebred super bike. It's a hell of a lot of fun but it's no tourer. |

I'll know as soon as i ride it if its for me . It sure is cool looking different than most sport bikes .. |

The warranty is worth SH!T!!!! Try to get parts for it AFTER it breaks down, it becomes a waiting game. Sort of, "Well we may get the parts for it some day, maybe, if you're lucky........" Sorry to be so P.O.ed, but I'm almost tired of waiting for mine to get fixed. (Message edited by mcballpeen on June 22, 2010) |

So far other than a stator for my 09, I have not waited more than a few days to get any part. American Sport Bike tends to have the more common stuff in stock anyway. |

So far my bike has been perfect, and became even more so when I added the Erik Buell Racing ignition. My life goal is to now get my skills up to 70% of the bikes potential. EZ |

I wouldn't touch that bike with a 10 foot pole, but if its what works for you, then great. (What is up with those handlebars? They look like they would be painful after a few minutes.) (Message edited by froggy on June 22, 2010) |

Wow from a sporty with forward controls and apes to crouched over the top of a sport bike, kind of an extreme shift in thinking. Moving from a cruiser to the Versys is about 1/2 way to a sport bike. That might be a good first step. |

This is my other ride... It's a bit of a stretch, but it's doable. Unless you are a superman (which I am definitely not) it will be a hard transition. Again, I thoroughly love riding my R and do as much as I can, but for anything over 2 hours out it sits in the garage. I am planning to take it out for a full day out on Sunday so we'll see how that goes. Going 2 up will be tough after getting off of your Sporty. |

I've owned several sport bikes know what to expect . 16" ape hangers are very comfortable as far as touch this bike with a 10 ft pole i now have had 5 yes 5 people wanting to trade there 1125r or cr for it so that says something . the resale value of it set up like it is ,is alot more than an 1125r .While doing research on the 1125 i noticed that the majority of them for sale have less than a 1000 miles and there in the 6g range my sporty is definately going to sell higher than that . I'm still thinking of trading knowing that mine is worth more . |

Take the deal. Then if you have the ability get something else for 2 up and touring. I tell my wife asking me to have 1 motorcycle would be like me asking her to have one pair of shoes. Heres one of my other rides for those lazy cruising days (grinding down the footboards) and taking the wifey out.
