Dick. All of a sudden that testimony that Tony Hayward gave before Congress is looking better. Let's see how the morning conference call goes tomorrow . . . they told us that they'd have better profits to report in the 2nd quarter. . . . well, we'll know tomorrow before the market opens. I laughed when he talked about the key to success being to bring in younger riders and then blamed the losses on "one time write offs". I guess he forgot the $600,000,000 at 15% that they had to borrow to pay the interest on. I watched the entire interview . . . waiting once for him to take any responsibility, propose on new thing or a solution to a business problem. The entire thing was to blame the economy and inflexible work rules imposed by the unions. He's a perfect fit for Harley. Dick. |

I remember some people saying: "Yeah, but look at the stock price. The market thinks he knows what he's doing." . . . I think it's just taking a while for the market to realize how clueless he is. Look how things have been going recently (and keep in mind this period includes the release of the exciting new XR1200X . . . and I'm betting it didn't help that just about every on-line article about the XR1200X turned into a Buell discussion):

So when is the XR1200 racing class going to be called "Wandell's little racing hobby"? |

>>>I am SO thankful that I don't own any H-D stock...... That makes two of us . . . it's made a couple feeble attempts to rise in the last couple months but both were on speculation of someone taking HD over . . not based on any glimmer of hope with respect to anything management is doing. Harley-Davidson had their investors conference call from 8:00am - 9:00am this morning. I missed it and, judging from the steady decline in the share price during the day (it's now down around 5%), I'd say the news wasn't fabulous. I am eager to read the 2Q10K and see how they fared with regard to what they SAID they would do 2Q. One of the things that's worried me most over the past year is that the current HD management can't predict their very own market from quarter to quarter. No one wants to see HD go on their ass. The sooner they can get Wandell, Olin and two others out of there the more comfy I'll be with HD's future. Talented folks are leaving as fast as they can get their paperwork in order and those remaining, a couple of whom I spoke to this weekend, tell tales of an insane "cover your own ass" work environment. |

Notice how he mentions Harley as a "seasonal" business. During my 5 years of employment at HD, we would build motors non-stop all year. This "seasonal" description is new, and most likely means that they are wanting to produce motors at maximum capacity for say 6-8 months out of the year, and layoff for the remaining months. Just my opinion, but it sure works together with wanting to change the "inflexible work rules". |

That was the most namby-pamby interview I have ever seen. Sad to think that someone can make that much money without showing any enthusiasm or passion for his job, or the tradition, and future of a fine brand, beyond how many bikes they can sell in India. It seems more obvious than ever that Buell Motorcycles was dumped because it COULD prove it's fiscal responsibility and ability to adapt quickly and efficiently to changing conditions; things Mr. Wandell seems to think will just magically appear throughout H-D. I must admit, though, after seeing this interview, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy, but like my mom used to tell me, "Be very careful who you feel sorry for..." |

Well, at least he's got a grasp of the fact that Harley is underserved among young riders (along with other ethnicities). And that there are a lot of people globally who want to participate in the brand, but may not expect to ever ride a motorcycle. He's basically admitting straight up that Harley is no longer a motorcycle company. ... while being completely passionless about it. W T F. ... time to short Harley shares? |

>>>>>>... time to short Harley shares? You're late. I've bet on them once and against them twice the last year and I can't thank the Chieftains in the Halls of Ineptitude enough. |
