Been kind of busy lately. Road trip and such, even did a kidney stone in the hospital one day. Back at the weigh-in I was at 220.8. Up a tad from 219.2, but I will regain control soon. Damn Mark, you will be lookin' all buff and such for the WVBR and I will be at the same weight and looking flabulus! Damned old messed up body parts anyway! |

Time for me to join in again. All those Twinkies and Reeses have done my tastebuds a world of good, but my size a disservice As of next week Chili and will be quitting smoking too, which means we will need a focus other than food to replace bad habits. I'm thinking walking and riding and up h2o intake should be a good start. We have cut down meal size and fat content since we got back (the candy hasn't run out yet though). So I will start at 0 as of tomar and post progress from there. |

Just got back from the weight gainclinic. 225.0 A little pissed at myself, but hey, that is after the Res Ride, Homecoming, and too many evening and weekend bbq's. Could have been much worse! |

I didn't even know this thread was here, haha. I hit the "tipping" point (255 lbs) a couple of months ago and decided that it just isn't the way I was brought up to be unhealthy. I'm 25 years old, 6'3" and a athletic build (think tight end/outside linebacker). I played lacrosse at a respectable D-III school in MD and at my PEAK athletic shape I was 225 lbs ... I don't think I'd look right any thinner than that. I was running a 6:10 mile (9:20 1.5 miles) and was benching my bodyweight 17 times. Pull ups were my weakness due to the weight ... I think I could do 7 ... just not fair with those midfielders and attackmen weighing 170 lbs cranking them out ... they don't know how much harder us big guys have to work, haha. Relative weight training != fun for me. Once I got my office job after I went on a two year hiatus working ins Aspen, CO and OC, MD ... things went downhill and I started gaining. Anyways, I started on P90X last summer and got down to 240 lbs in about 2 weeks. Not healthy at all ... working out way too hard, way too frequent, and I simply couldn't eat enough calories for my body to keep up. SO I fell off the boat and got back up to 255 lbs pretty quickly. Then in March I wanted to start again, but now I just run 3 miles in the AM before work 4x a week. I have a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast, string cheese for a snack, an egg/cheese/sausage bagel for lunch and whatever I want for dinner (mostly high protein). Since March I'm down to about 238 and feel good about that. I'm losing slowly but steadily. I also cut out soda at home and I hardly drink anymore ... but I won't decline any of that on occasion. My goal is 225-230 then I'll start to lift weights again to trim up a bit more. Feels good! Good luck everyone ... |

Hhhmm, not sure what the scale says yet. All American candy reserves depleted now. Started taking the dogs for a 30-40 min walk every day though, so hoping that will help. 2 days till stop smoking date.... Check back in soon. |

Just found this thread, and congrats to all here for your hard work. Might I make a mention though of a few things to consider when trying to lose weight/size. 1) inches are more important than weight, and a better measurement. If you look at my thread here (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/585039.html?1281164100), you'll see that I obviously look better in the second picture than the first, but I am 4 lbs heavier in that picture as well. Muscle weighs more than fat, and more muscle builds a higher metabolism, so its important to have a fair amount of it. Depending on your current weight and how much you're looking to lose, this may or may not become a factor. So though I'm at 180 in the second picture instead of 176, my waist is over an inch smaller, which I believe is what most of us are looking to achieve. 2)proper diet and plenty of fluids is key to building muscle and metabolism to continue to burn fat. I take in 200-250 grams of protein and 180-250 ounces of water/fluid a day to keep plenty of gas in the tank, so to speak, to keep my metabolism going and my fat burning. I also cut out a TON of fat out of my diet by eating very lean meats, eating proper serving sizes, and eating smaller meals more often through the day 5-6 times a day). I can cut 10 lbs in a single day any given day if I cut my water intake in half because I've trained my body to run off that much fluid, but it's better for me to keep it, should I have to kick in reserves working late without a snack or sweating a lot. My energy level diminishes if I cut down the fluid intake. Which brings me to number 3) Drink more water. Your body cannot distinguish well between hunger or thirst. So you may think you're hungry, when you are actually dehydrated. Then you are refueling a fuel tank and leaving the one that's being used on empty. Your body is 70% percent water, so don't you think you should be taking in more water than food? Sure, you may have to go to the bathroom a little more often, but you'll be healthier, stronger, faster, and more energized if you don't deny yourself proper hydration. And you won't over-eat, which is why it's very important when trying to lose unnecessary mass . (Message edited by Phelan on August 07, 2010) |

Body Fortress Whey Isolate in Vanilla (60g protein with 2 scoops). It's cheap, available at Walmart I'm gonna need to look into this... I'm about out of my GNC protein, which I just started to use again I can't believe what a difference it makes in how fast you recover |
