Hi to everyone. I've been reading the messages on this board for some time and have read a lot of great information. Sometimes I hear about members' bikes being stolen or had an attempt on them, and this makes me curious. I was wondering, how many of us on here are using our anti-theft systems by using the PIN numbers to protect our bikes? I know I always keep mine locked in the garage with the front forks locked and a set security system. Some loser stole the riding lawnmower out my back garage one time, so now I'm paranoid.  I make sure I set the security system especially when it's parked out in public somewhere. Just wondering how many of us actually take these precautions so that some A-hole doesn't rip us off. | ||

I do. It's a condition on my insurance policy + it only takes less than 30 seconds to disarm so i see no reason not to have it on  | ||

When people steal bikes they usually throw them in a truck or a van. Its sickening how fast they pull up and get the bike. 2 guys could easily handle an 1125 like a toy. If they cant unlock the system they can easily part out the other 99% of the bike. Lo Jack works but its expensive to purchase but pays for itself in a few years with insurance discounts. A complex here in NJ had 5 bikes stolen in 1 night. Video caught them loading a rented moving truck. In seconds they had my friends and his girlfriends 600s in the back and were gone. Under a minute to open the back and toss the bike up. They were both found 2 days later in a stolen van. They had tried to cut the disc brake locks off but didnt get them. So they demolished the bikes with hammers and left them in NY. Bike thieves should be treated like cattle rustlers and hung by their balls. | ||

You can not prevent bike theft. You can deter. A thief will take the lowest hanging fruit - the one where the act of stealing takes minimum time. Visual locks deter. A bike w/o locks right next to one with cables or disk locks will be stole before. So I am not sue how effective an electronic anti-theft device really is against professional thieves. The disptick that wants to hotwire your bike and take it for a joyride is deterred with anti-theft systems. | ||

Doer, like you said, you can deter. It's obvious that blinking light is an anti-theft system. Add that to the disc lock and cable lock, and it's another thing that will discourage theft. And I'd say it's the other way around. If a professional thief wants your bike, he's going to get it regardless of what you've done to secure it unless you have eyes on at all time. If some douche just wants to jack a bike, he'll take the easiest one. | ||

One thing that i use to secure my bike when i park it out side is a cover. It tends to deter thieves because they do not know what bike is under the cover. I use a lock around the cover, so they would have to pick a lock just to see what bike is under it. I also use two brake locks, and chain it to a pole. | ||

have been thinking about putting an anchor in the driveway to secure my bikes to in order to deter/prevent all but the most serious thieves. | ||

If they steal one of my three or all, I got good insurance plus gap to cover so I do not loose sleep over it. | ||

I really wish the LED was more prominent, it might actually deter tampering. Honestly though I only set mine if I'll be away from it for more than a couple of hours. Even then though I usually stuff my jacket into the cowl area so you wouldn't see the LED anyways. | ||

my bro's ducati monster and brand spanking new R1 dipped in rizoma from front to back was stolen in a secure underground lot below his apt complex. The thieves ran in behind a car before the gates closed. Then they initiated the sensor and rolled in their van. The bikes were all secured with anchors and disc locks. The fu**ers just used a torch to cut the chain. Then he got an even nicer R1 parked it the sam place but with an anchor on the front wheel as well. It was gone 2 weeks later. My 1125 was parked right next to them the whole time and they didnt touch mine. I guess it because there are only 2 1125 registered in Denmark where i live =) |
