I got the charging harness done on my bike and i want to make sure that the dealer did it right. I rode it after the harness was installed. Above 5k rpms the voltage is @ 14V. When below 5k rpms, the voltage is @ 13.8 V. Does this sound right? Also, I can confirm that the harness can be installed with the resistor. I know there was a debate on here on weather or not the resistor could be installed with the harness. | ||

I have just had this done to my ‘09 cr and despite what the dealer says it is not right. The voltage is all over the place. One minute it is 14.2 the next it has dropped to 12.9. Today the volyage dropped twice to below 12 volts and the battery warning light came on each time. My dealings with cars and bikes over the past 40 years have always been a charging voltage of 13.8 – 14.2 volts. Going back to pre alternator cars this was only when the IGN light went off (that of course no longer applies because everything is now using AC). To my mind the voltage should not exceed or drop below that voltage. Having said that I have seen somewhere that the 1125’s charging voltage is up to 14.7. Maybe that is why they changed the charging harness. I would say yours sounds fine. | ||

That's how it is with the updated harness. 14.2-11.8 is what I get now And I recommend keeping a spare relay on the bike. | ||

I was watching mine today ... it was HOT in Georgia. Coolant temp hit 214 while in traffic. It appears to me that the voltage is not only related to RPM but Temperature as well. When the bike was HOT it hardly ever even hit 14V no matter what the RPM ... the lowest it got was around 12.7 in traffic with maxed out Coolant temp. | ||

Mine stay around 14V regardless of the RPM after the hardness update. |
