Just got my fairings painted and am ready to install on my 08. Any tricks that could help? Does any padding go between the fairing and the stock inlets to keep from scratching? Have not looked that closely at it yet.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Is it the OEM lowers you're talking about?

I'd suggest replacing the "heatshield" that's on there as stock, it's not very good, also make sure the R/H brackets are bent out and//or insert a spacer to give some clearance between the header and the fairing, it doesn't need a lot but it will make all the difference.

Install one side first, mounting the top bolt to hold it in place, then the other side and then the little joint under the headlamp assembly.. pretty straightforward really..

They are the stock fairings from Buell. What heat material should I use and where to get?

Thanks

If you spacer it out about 1/4" at the bottom, the stock heat shield is fine. I used a nylon spacer from Lowe's and got a longer bolt for the right front bracket where it attach's to the motor. After that no more problems, just looking to find a belly pan now! Best of luck!

I just used a spacer on the right side as well and have had no problems with the heat shield.

I used Thermotec heat shielding after my stock heatshield failed and the fairing started to warp.. It does happen (search on here), but if you space it properly you might be OK with the stock heatshield, but for the sake of a few bucks I'd still recommend replacing it..

+1 on the spacer. I did a little bend and a couple of washers, which was fine when sitting but at highway speed I could look down & see the fairing pressing back in to the exhaust, take the time to use a spacer & a longer bolt so you never have to worry with it.

Most important, don't forget to share pics when you're done!
