We wouldn't be riding our ULY's if not for Harley Davidson. Those that ride the 1125 would not have ever heard of the 1125 because it would not have existed except for Harley Davidson. Harley gave Eric Buell the ability to bring "some" of his dreams to reality and certainly not the other way around. Do any of you Harley bashers actually believe that Eric could of financed the development costs and manufacturing costs of the bikes we ride without Harley's deep pockets. I personally am glad that Harley and Buell had some time together. I also wish that the new H-D CEO would of thought things through better and kept Buell manufacturing around. Time to move on though because Harley bashing is pretty nonsensical if you take time to think how Buell got to where it was,... because of HD. Sure Harley-D didn't make it at all easy for Erik and company but they did make many things possible that surely wouldn't have happened without H-D capital. Hopefully Erik still has the fire and desire to get back into a full fledged motorcycle manufacturing company. As always, it will take some outfit with deep pockets to finance the operation and we all know what that means: somebody second guessing and controlling the purse strings again. |

EG, That doesn't negate the fact that HD is quite possibly going down in flames. |

it's not just HD going down in flames. Many businesses world wide are going down. Just the nature of our economic beast |

Harley gave Eric Buell the ability to bring "some" of his dreams to reality and certainly not the other way around." It's a good point but what HD motorcycle runs the 1125 now? I think what adds insult to injury is that HD has sold us the ideal of "an American made motorcycle", the kind a patriotic thought processes of looking out for ourselves and buying American. Buell was an innovative branch of that ideal, so HD dropping Buell kinda negates that selling point. Perhaps it's all semantics, the reality of business transcends catchy advertisement catch phrases. Never-the-less, I think HD could have reworked their budgeting and cut corners in other areas first, but then I'm not on the accounting boards at HD, so I'm just guessing. |
