If you can simply get it out, then I would get another stud and put it in. testing for fit, if loose, I would take back out and helicoil - if not loose, then I'd leave alone and go from there. EZ |

for one i cant get it out... i tried an ez out, and all it did was drill through it but wont come out so then i tried a slightly larger drill bit hoping maybe it would brake and come out... my ez out was slightly off center, so i cant try any bigger drill bits without cutting in the head and cant get the dang thing out |

Here was my thinking when I had this same problem... 1) Start with just retapping. 2) If that pulls out, you are at about the right size for a heli coil. 3) If that pulls out, you are about at the right size for a tim-sert. 4) If that pulls out, send it to Wes Brown to repair and get it ported and get the parts for a big bore kit. I never got past step 1 though... the retapped hole has always held (maybe 40k miles on two bikes). It's easy to get that hole off center. Get the Jims tool, and that should line up the drill and let you machine it out. If you really want to do it without the jims tool, and I wouldn't recommend it, you can use a tungsten carbide bullet shaped dremel bit to carefully machine out the old stud... but the deeper you go into the head, the harder it gets to do well. There are EDM solutions as well, no idea how much that costs. |
