Getting the Uly ready to heading to Homecoming and had a new rear tire installed. When picking up the wheel the shop met me with the news that, "hey did you know that you have a bent wheel?" This is the 2010 wheel that was put on last summer when my rear bearing went out and destroyed the old wheel. I was quite surprised as I can't recall hitting anything. Now I am trying to find another 2010 wheel.

My question to this group is, "Could this have been caused by improper installation of the bearings?

Describe "bent". Is the runout out of spec? Is the bead bent? Did your tire shop bend it?

When running the wheel on a balancer, there was about an 1/8 of an inch, or a little more wobble. It almost looked like it was coming really low on the hub, it wasn't just the wheel rim that was wobbling, but you could see movement at the hub. I am wondering if it is a bearing issue???

I wonder if whom ever installed the bearings supported the wheel by the rim while they pounded them in (didn't support the hub)?? I think you would have noticed a hit that was hard enough to bend your wheel.

Cpilot- I'd bet there was something amiss with the bearing installation. OTOH, if you didn't notice any weird vibration up to now, I'd re-install the wheel and see how it does. If it doesn't vibrate, don't worry about it.

I hope they didn't beat the bearings in. They should have the proper installation tool. You never bear on a bearing. It could have been machined wrong from the factory too.

I installed the wheel and a new belt last night (wow that new belt is a task!). Once assembled I ran the Uly and spun the rear wheel, I could see no wobble at all. I believe this false alarm came from the wheel not fitting properly on the balance machine. I am not sure if I would of had that little spacer on the rotter side installed for the balance machine it might have fit better.

The thing that was strange in that I got over 6,000 miles on that rear tire and it showed no abnormal wear. It just didn't add up.

Anyway, I am confident that I am ready to head off for Homecoming next week.

Cpilot- Your theory seems highly likely. Glad it turned out to be a false alarm.

Glad you got all fixed Dennis.
Wish I could have helped, but Al is doing an awesome job of covering necessities that WILL move and be important.

The whole "Buell world" never ceases to amaze me.
See ya in a few days.
