I don't think they are supposed to last the life expectancy of the bike. I forget what the general life term is on them but I think it may be in the ball park of 30 - 40 thousand miles depending on how aggressive you ride. Does anyone have any specifics on the belts life cycle? | ||

No, some people get only 5k, some people get 50k, some people have over 100k on their Uly with the original belt. It is a crap shoot, thats why after it gets a little stretched and loose that I recommend you replace it and keep the old one as a spare. The new belts are tighter than a nun, and the old belt will install much easier for those roadside emergencies. | ||

Mine has been frayed for about 17k miles. It is normal. I would like to install a new belt, and keep the old as a spare, like Froggy suggested. | ||

I honestly think the 08/09 lower belt guard has caused a number of belt failures. I've been harboring this pet theory for a while, and it has to do with certain conditions of light load on the belt that will cause the lower section to flop side to side a bit. The metal flange catches the edge and then cuts through the belt. I'm almost sure that's what happened to me, because the edge of that flange was also bent inward after the incident. To support my pet theory... anyone seen an 2010 lower belt guard. Notice anything... | ||

Track no guard, street with a modified guard -- I bend the flanges back. Not running a lower guard has some significant downside, even on the track. I'm always getting little bits of hot rubber from the tires ("boogers") up in the works... |
