There you have it. That sucks for Puredrive if it was me my habits would dictate what I would do. |

Father of an era, To your question, Engine Ice is a poly glycol (stock antifreeze is ethyl glycol). I have it in my Gas Gas trials bike to lower temps. However, Anonymous, who is in the know, has earlier posted that poly glycols should not be used in the 1125, possibly due to metal interactions. That's good enough for me, I won't use it. I think that a 3 ounces of Water Wetter can lower CT and should be OK from what I've read. The cali can is the emissions carbon canister used in CA bikes stock. H-D covered mine being installed (parts cost $60) on my Vegas 1125. Henderson HD was great and did the work no questions asked. Fuel still boils in the frame but there is less fuel smell with the cali can, plus no gas puddling under the bike. A good full synthetic oil can reduce temps a little I believe. Motul V300 is my choice; it is a real dual ester full syn, I have always run it in my Ducatis. Not all oil labeled Syn, is. Amsoil is another full syn, PAO not ester base. But HD Syn3 is a Citgo blend, not full syn. |

On oils: Amsoil/Royal Purple/Motul/(anything full synthetic) is not much more expensive than the massively overpriced part-synthetic Harley SYN3. And it's much better oil. |

After the 221F plus Coolant Temp readings..I did take the bike to the dealer. I got the latest flash and also got the dealer to burp the Coolant system. This was close to the end of the summer..So I never really got the same ambient temp to make a fair comparison. To see if it actually worked. Since early this year,I am running 1/3 bottle of redline water wetter. And I am still running Mobil 1 20w-50 syn bike oil. I have noticed that the Ambient Temp reader now reads much more erroneous then when I was having 220F+ temps. Maybe mine is defective. who knows. As far as the lane splitting. Can't do it here in TX. But sometimes I have used the breakdown shoulder to keep me moving. hope the popo don't get me. that ticket is $$$ |

I've used the shoulder too... if traffic is "violent" stop and go - not smoothly accelerating/decelerating but rapid/abrupt/I keep hearing tires squealing, the shoulder is a safer place to be. I'll take the risk of a ticket vs the risk of being involved somewhere in the middle of a multi-car pileup (which they almost ALL are out here). |

Thank you Greenflash, the information you provided is very helpful. I was thinking of going with Royal Purple and to get away from HD Syn (Syn blend I guess). I noticed a small difference in temp with my 02 HD Road-glide and I wondered if the same will happen with the R. I would imagine my R has the Cali Can but since I have never head of it before, I am going to check. Once again, thanks for the info guys. |

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 545.060, Transportation Code, is amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: (a) An operator on a roadway divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic: (1) shall drive as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane, except as provided by Subsection (e); and (2) may not move from the lane unless that movement can be made safely. (e) The operator of a motorcycle may operate the motorcycle for a safe distance between lanes of traffic moving in the same direction during periods of traffic congestion if the operator: (1) is at least 21 years old; (2) has successfully completed a motorcycle operator training and safety course under Chapter 662; (3) is covered by a health insurance plan providing the operator with at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of an accident while operating a motorcycle; and (4) operates the motorcycle: (A) at a speed not more than five miles per hour over the speed of the other traffic; (B) in traffic that is moving at a speed of 20 miles per hour or less; and (C) in a location other than a school crossing zone or other than a location where the posted speed limit is 20 miles per hour or less. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005. |

To my knowledge, and I'm 99% sure of this, the TX lane splitting amendment was NOT passed. In the last legislative session, it was indeed passed by the TX Senate and then referred to the House. The House never voted on it and it "died in committee" when the legislative session ended. LANE SPLITTING IS NOT LEGAL IN TX, much to my dismay. (Message edited by pwillikers on June 07, 2010) |

Hottest I've seen my 1125R was 225F while creeping along in traffic in Portland on the 205, near the airport, on the bridge over Government Island during an unusually warm day after leaving a Full-Tilt Riders / Bikers for Christ bike blessing event. ODOT had the freeway reduced from 4 or 5 lanes to 2 for construction. The bike didn't seem to mind which really surprised me. It still had Mobil1 10W-40 synthetic oil in from the winter which may have contributed to the high engine temp. I fared well, just had to open the vents on my leather jacket. Glad I wore my leather pants, too; prevents thigh burns. ATGATT! My bike has been running hotter in general than I like. I believe it's running lean and that I should investigate ways to enrichen it. I do have the ECM cable, but no Windows machines except my wife's tablet that she uses for work; I should borrow it for a bit to run the new ECMspy. Current Texas Transportation Code section 545.060 does not contain subsection (e) from the proposed amendment above, which is in agreement with Pwillikers' statement. I have lane-split a few times here in WA where it is also illegal. Sometimes it is the best option and doesn't cause anybody else to be delayed or hampered in any way, so I don't see what the big deal is. I consider it peaceful civil disobedience. |
