Very nice looking bike. Even has a center stand. $20,000 with bags and center stand. The Omaha Ducati dealer is having Ducati Days at the MidAmerica track near Glenwood, Iowa on June 19 and 20. Maybe can make it back from Homecoming all in one day so that I could get to ride that Multistrada on the MidAmerica track. No way would I or could I justify 20 large for a bike these days. The problem with spending so much for a vehicle is the inflated insurance, tax and licencing cost. My Electraglide is 13 years old and the latest licence was only $16.00 for 2010. Point A to point B baby! The wiring and plumbing on that Duc looks very complicated. It damned near has an IPad for instrumentation and you can electronically adjust the suspension, front and rear, on the fly from the handlebar buttons. Also, it had multiple levels of tune depending on your preference for the ride. All I could think of was what that would cost to fix when it inevitably went on the fritz. You just know it will. BUT, I still want to demo that thing with its 150 ponies. |

I took an extended test ride, including ten miles of "good to fair" mountain dirt road, and ten miles of "sportbike paradise" tarmac. Seventy miles total. It was an experience I will NEVER forget, for a multitude of reasons. I was very impressed with the MTS 1200, but if you're after a "point A to point B" bike, this is not your baby. --Doc |

Dr greg, I read your review on advrider and I'm really interested in one myself. I've been getting all of the invites to World Ducati Week and I'd really like to make the 5 hr down to Misano but I can't afford the time off :-(. I will have go to the dealer up the road and see if I can't take one for a spin. When are supposed to get yours? |

YOU TRAITORS!!!! Hey, I'll NEVER EVER sell the Uly. If I got another "sport touring" bike (or whatever ya wanna call it) it just means I can take trips with my kids (actually kid, the youngest of the four boys is 17; he's scared to ride the Uly so I guess I'd hafta put him on the MTS 1200). --Doc |

Scared to ride the Uly so you'll put him on a 150HP bike? Hmm... |

Call me a traitor, looked at ducs all day today and was offered a great trade on the Uly. I really like the new multi but not spending the coin. The 848 is less than 10k, and the 796 Hyper looks like too much fun. |

A couple of weekends ago I stopped in at the dealer that used to carry Ducati here hoping to take a look at a Multistrada, after reading really great things about it. Found out that that dealer no longer carries Ducati, and no one in town does either. Pisser, cause after reading a couple of reviews, I was almost convinced that that would be my next bike, as soon as I won the lottery. |

Not only due you need to have some bank, but you need to wait at least 3 months, as the first of the bikes are already accounted for. I would love to add a Multi to my stable. Of course I would keep my Uly if I could afford to. |

Duc Pond in Winchester VA probably has one or two. I live near-by but have not been there in a couple of months. They usually have a great inventory of Ducati's. But liv2 is probably right. (Message edited by kellaupat on June 04, 2010) |

I work part-time sales at a Ducati (plus Honda, Suzuki, & Kawasaki) shop. I rode the 1200MTS around town the first day it was set up. Two days later on Saturday after working I rode it over a combination of conditions, including highway, and back roads. Impressive bike. I wanted to love it, since I could get a substantial discount on the S Touring model. It just didn't fit me -- a few issues such as passenger peg interference to my size 13s, plus not much room to move around on the seat. The centerstand "foot" placement was a design screw-up as well, but one that could be rectified with some cutting and welding. There was a bit of lean surge condition on the highway as well, but that seems to be a hit or miss, depending on the individual bike. Getting back on my Hypermotard 1100S felt much better, but I can't fault Dr Greg for wanting one at all. |

Doc- just read your well-written review. Any thoughts on the Multi compared to your Uly? I'm sure it'd be an amazing road bike, but I can't quite get over $400 in repairs for a simple slow fall over on a dirt road. |

I don't plan on getting rid of the Uly either, I'm just tired of it breaking down on me everytime I go on a multi-day trip. I've had two trips to where I had no major problems in the 27k miles I've had it. This last one really sucked because when the electrical issues started I was at Ancient Olympia, Greece and I live in northern Italy which is the furthest I've been away from home when something happened. What really sucks is that I spent several weeks doing a bunch of maintenance/upgrades to the bike and then first trip out something that I didn't mess with fails... I've $400 in parts on order (stator, VR, fan, tools and primary gaskets/seals) and my bike is sitting during the beginning of the riding season, AGAIN!! When I get a new bike the Uly will never venture any further than 50 miles from my house, I just can't trust it...... |

Thesmaz, I hear ya but even though the same things failed on mine, the replacement parts seem to be doing better. Since they come with new style connectors it seems to have helped out. Use dielectric grease on the connector pins. I even put it on the wires that I had to crimp on the new style connectors. I was pissed because it all failed right after I did the XB9 primary conversion!! There was concern that some gear oils in the primary would cause problems for the glues used on the stator. I don't know what you were using but I would stay away from a transmission type oil. Even AMSOIL recommends their engine oil in the trans/primary instead of their tranny oil. Get it fixed and go enjoy it. It's frustrating now, I know, but as said, the new parts seemed improved over the original. |

I've been reading some reviews of the multi, non of them have been off the charts. It's a great concept I thought when I saw one this winter, but it's too middle of the road on all accounts, except maybe in shear horsepower. That's what the magazines are saying to. While my uly may not be king of the dirt, due to just a few little things(front wheel), it has great street moxie and the harley motor gives it lots of character. More character than any japanese or german bike has ever shown me. But those Italians, they do make a convincing product - until you see the price tag. I got my Uly for $5K with 7K miles on it......... |

Tootal, I've been running Royal Purple 20W50 in both holes for almost two years now. Did my research and bought the right type of RP (forget which one it is right now). I hope that the new parts hold up better and nothing else goes wrong this year. I am going to have to replace the rear wheel though, the pulley side bearing goes in about half way before I have to use any pressure to get it seated. Going to swap out to the 2010 wheel setup and hopefully that will solve the wheel bearing problem. I use the bike more like a sport tourer and enjoy long, multi day rides but the last couple of trips haven't been as enjoyable/relaxing because I was worried about the bike leaving beside the road, again. It shouldn't be like this..... It's not why I have a bike in the first place. |
