My mother-in-law gave me this Coleman Model 503 b-46 military issue camping stove. Her husband passed away over a year ago and I assume it was his. With a bit of luck I got the thing working like new. According to the internet the thing was made in 1946. It even has a gas funnel on a chain for fuel loading. It all fits snug in two pots that also are used for cooking. Pot handle is a wrench that fits all its fittings. Pretty neat. Will use on my Buell ULY adventures from now on. Had to add this photo of our 18 year old cat and this female raccoon that visits our deck daily, sometimes multiple times. Anyway, our cat walks over and gets right in the face of this here raccoon, maybe an inch from its face, and hisses. The raccoon just walked away. Probably our old cat's 18 year old breath. My son took the photo and wasn't able to get the photo of the hiss.  | ||

If you see one of these stoves then grab it. They are built to last and use coleman gas and probably will work fine with unleaded gas. | ||

I've got the same stove but don't have the pots or funnel. Nice set! By the way, that stove will last for generations. Just oil up the leather piston in the pump every year or so. I fill mine with gasoline usually. It stinks more than coleman fuel but burns it fine. For me, the main advantage to this stove over any other I have seen is that you don't need to carry another container for fuel. Once full, it burns a long time and can be filled when you fill the bike  | ||

Mnrider, He might be a Maine Coon cat. 18 years ago when he was just a feral kitten he followed me and the dogs home after one of the dogs tried to kill him in a creek. All you could see was this kittens head sticking up out of the water and our female mutt trying her best to get past the high speed claw work of that cat. I got the dog away but the darned kitty commenced to following us so I put the cat on my shoulder where it dug in like a tick. Had the fool ever since. Both dogs are long dead but the cat lives on and on and on. | ||

Panhead, Yes, I oiled up the leather pump piston real well. I'm pretty familiar with these Coleman gas stoves. I just made the error of donating my old Coleman two burner to Goodwill. I never use it anymore because I got a Coleman 2 burner propane stove. I saw that military one burner all bright and shiny in my mother-in-laws garage so I asked her if I could have it. The orifice was plugged but I compressed air cleaned that bit out so I could see day light through it. Wouldn't hold pressure until I siliconed under the gas cap's metal seal. Works like new now. Cool as all get out and the flame has a nice hiss to it. Got all jealous of my Sturgis riding buddy's new fangled propane one burner last August. He'd get up and make coffee every morning. Now I can do the same but in better style. | ||

OldWestern, I'd heard some time ago about aluminum and oldtimers disease so I'm well aware of that. I wouldn't cook with those pots. In fact, after reading about aluminum and dementia I got rid of all our aluminum pots and pans and only use SS revereware. It's always funny how these chemist cook up some new coating and then tell us how it is safe for cooking. Teflon WAS safe. Baby bottle plastic WAS safe. Aluminum WAS safe. Saran Wrap WAS safe. Styrofoam cups WERE safe. On and On. I only drink out of glassware and cook with stainless steel. AND I'm still half crazy. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on June 01, 2010) | ||

For those of you needing a camping stove... I bought a SteverStove from Advrider and love it! Haven't had to use it 'in the field' yet, but it's super compact, and burns Heet, which is available at most gas stations and Walmart's for about a buck a bottle (a bottle is good for boiling a cup of water, 5 times)   And it fits in the Agri. I use a coleman peak 1 multi fuel stove. Fits in an old Crown Royal bag! It is the modern version of your old stove. That's a classic, use it with pride. | ||

Guess that's one place I'm old-school. Dead sticks, a match (one "challenge" I never grew out of - the one-match-fire) out of my first aid tube...and if it rained recently, a little unleaded out of my MSR fuel bottle tube. And I can usually find a spare grocery store cart for a 'grille' somewhere  That Coleman is awesome, though! | ||

There is one made by Optimus, that has been around literly for a century, still being made, the "Optimus Svea", swedish company has been making them for climbers. I guarantee if you google it you'll se pleanty. Cool stoves both. A Lot of good ones these days that break down a bit. | ||
