To anyone who is in the KNOW. A friend has a bad ass Victory with about 135 hp or so on the base motor now. I mentioned the Buell belt woes to him. He sent me this web site link. http://www.powersports360.com/eshopprod_cat_6247-9 037-25729_product_886222_keyword_drive+AND+belts.S S174__GATES174_HIGH_S.htm Maybe one of these two? 14mm 135 Tooth - 1-1/8" 49-3622 $181.10 012345678910 14mm 135 Tooth - 1-1/2" 49-3637 $186.25 Can one of you experts tell me if there is a belt our size on the list. Years ago, MANY years ago I built up a semi hot rod PINTO! I KNOW! HAhahaaaaa. Its all I had. Anyway it made in the neighborhood of 175 HP. from its German 2.0 liter motor. The first OEM belt lasted less than 500 miles. THANKFULLY I had fly cut the piston dome to clear the valves just in case this happened. I was able to find a GATES BELT and it lasted the 10,000 miles I put on it before I had to sell it for a pickup to work out of. So would these belts if avalible in our size work? I think its a viable option to the OEM. GROUP BUY? HAHahaaaaaaaa. Thanks.... BDRAG (Message edited by BDRAG on May 25, 2010) |

Well, Gates made all the Buell belts up until 2004, when they switched to Goodyear. The Gates belts on the tubers held up very well, but the belts on the early XB's tended to be pretty fragile. It's been written in more than one place that the reverse bend that the idler pulley used on the XB's makes it hard to design a belt that will hold up. Why not write or call Gates and see what they have to say about them? |

HD have been using Gates Belts for over 20 years. Buell have a good reason to switch, they needed a stronger belt and went to the Goodyear Hibrex Final Drive Belt. In 14 years of riding Buells, I broke 3 Gates belts and no Goodyear belts, yet! |

I tried to see what I could find out about these belts at Gates website and S&S's website last night and came up empty. I did find a Gates belt applications engineering website that mentioned motorcycle applications; I'll try e-mailing them tonight and see if I get a response. |

Teeps Well? I am the tire tester as of now so someone else needs to be the belt tester. Who has busted the most? Maybe we could take up a fund and let them try and bust one. HAhahaaaa. BDRAG |

This was posted in another thread http://www.powersportsuperstore.com/Belt-Drives-1- 1-2-POLY-BLT-14-MM-135T-1-1-2-135-p/tr43-9061.htmþ If you look at the bottom left of the page, it mentions GoodYear 'Falcon' and that they are the Buell OEM belts... but most of that info is cut off? |

this is the Goodyear Buell belt Goodyear® Hibrex® belt with Flexten® Plus technology The description of the “Felcon” belt in the above link says 1 1/8” belts are designed for show and not intended to replace factory OEM belt (Message edited by two_buells on June 01, 2010) |

The Goodyear belt (now made by Veyance, same company new owners) is better than the Gates belt. The Gates belt does not tolerate the fixed idler pulley. |
