i dont have a service manual. i dont even have money. i'm getting pretty fed up with this bike because of the front end.

we tried to set the loaded sag to 36mm (30% of total) but it wont settle below 30mm even with zero preload. factory settings pogo like nuts or bottom out. the springs are just too heavy for me.

is there a spacer in there that i can swap? does anyone make lighter springs for these? how much is it going to cost me to have this front-end sorted?

you probably have one of the early 08 models. the later ones have lighter springs. mine is set up great with the heavy springs and i only weigh about 170(lil more with full leathers)

mine has very minimal preload also.

ended up setting it up with one of the suspension places at a track day. works like a charm now!

I'm about 215 dressed to ride on my 09CR and yeah, these are on the stiff side. Backed off the compression damping?

I'm interested to hear about spring options as well. At 160 fully dressed, I can't get more than 30mm of front sag dialed in. Aren't these race bikes? How many racers weight 200+ lbs?

Maybe I can put some lead shot in the bars.

If the factory settings pogo, dial in more rebound damping. A lot more rebound damping if necessary. If it bottoms, you need more preload and/or more compression damping.

I followed the Sport Rider recommended settings but they suggested something like 4 turns out for rebound damping. I have it down yo 2 turns out now and it's a lot better controlled.

Howworkclutch - How much do you weigh? If you are less than 170lbs they are going to be too stiff.

i'm 170 on the nose (without gear).

i dont understand why the rear shock is so awesome and the fronts are so fiddly. i thought designers used similar spring-rates for front-pairs and rear.

i reckon i'll keep trying to dial-it in with damping, but this doesn't seem right to me.

Contact Erik Buell Racing and ask if they have any take off springs from their race bike builds.
Put a cable tie around one of your lower fork tubes. Then do some HARD braking. Measure the position of the tie to determine how much travel you have left. More than 10mm - too hard, 10-5mm good, <5mm - too soft. I think total travel is 126mm. But u should double check.

I also ran into this problem, and I weigh 185lb with full gear. I was chasing 35mm front and 25mm rear.

To achieve 35mm in the front, I am running zero preload. This would be perfect in theory, but I find it suspicious. I am running almost FULL preload in the rear. Which seems VERY suspicious considering where the front is.

I wonder if there is something different about the geometry of these bikes that makes these numbers not apply.
