One of our group called and Newcomb's and emailed me the following:

All,
I have some disappointing news.
I just spoke to someone at Newcomb's, and he said that are talking about not opening the roads until after winter. He said the pavement is destroyed in many areas, the guard rails are gone, and there is a lot of debris on the roads.
The good news is that the restaurant is still standing, and plans on opening as soon as the roads are useable.

Last race of the year coming on the 15th at Willow Springs.

YES, some of us will continue on next year - and some others may not.

Shawn Higbee MIGHT make it - even though there's not more Buell contingency. Eric Pinson was going to be here as well (still working on confirmation)

There's going to be a BBQ-in-the-pits hosted by Glendale, Mario Vindeni and Ernie Snair will be racing their 1125R and XB12. I'll be there on the XB with Buell Racing banners a-flying. Dave Finnerty from Victorville will be there. Eric (GearheadEriko) will be there with his Blast (Raced by James Provencher) and Dave Ortiz and Jim Chaconas are likely there racing their Blast/S1 hybrids.

It might be the last time we have this many Buell racers all there at one time.

This'll be the season's "last hurrah."

Come out if you can - $10 at the gate gets you full access.

After about 3 months the Crest is scheduled to be open on Monday. Better go for a ride before it rains.

Wore my blue Buell Bolt jacket to the Long Beach IMS and, as a result, several people stopped me asking things about Buells.

One guy said he has a Sportster but wants to get a Thunderbolt because he likes the Thunderbolt best of all the Buells. The problem he says is that he doesn't know where to find one to buy as the online forums he knows don't have that kind of info. So I told him about badweatherbikers.com which has various discussion forums relating to all things Buell and even has a "Classifieds" section where he could shop for the bike of his dreams. He went away smiling.

Another fellow asked excitedly if I got the jacket at the show thinking that he could get one too. I had to say I got it at the dealer but didn't have the heart to tell him that soon he won't be able to get one at all.

Another guy asked what I was going to do with my bike now that Buell is out of business. I said I'll keep riding it and taking it to the dealer for service as needed. I mentioned that Buell the company may have ended for now, but maybe when Harley and the economy turn around and things get better for business, Buell the company may restart and make street bikes again. Who knows? I also said that Buell the man is starting a new business, Erik Buell Racing, to support privateer racers with race bikes, parts and expertise.

Did anybody make it to Glendale last Saturday?
I tried to ride down from Santa Maria in the mourning but once I got over the coastal mountains into Santa Barbara and going east, it seemed like I was riding in and out of rain storms forever. I finally said this is stupid a little east of Thousand Oaks and turned back.

I really wanted to go. Did the event even happen?

Several riders came in as it was raining and everybody had a good time. Outside, there were a couple of models in sexy attire to have your picture taken with, several tables of merchandise, an assortment of race Buells and well known racers in attendance. Ernie and the rest of the staff there were very happy to see us Buellers show up, even if it was raining a little. Even though I came in a car and had to leave early for another engagement, it was fun seeing a few of the familiar dedicated racers there.

730 miles covered on the Joshua Tree ride on Saturday - what a day!

Made it all the way back to Camarillo area where four FAGS tried to run me into the center divider. Maybe, just maybe the lead rider thought I was one of the tail end guys holding the lane for them, but I was not amused when after passing three of the four riders the first guy moves and takes my front wheel off.

I need to make a correction - the Track Daz offer is for a session - and NOT for the entire day - I had MIS-INTERPRETED in all my excitement!!

At Willow this weekend, Dustin Coyner (many of you know from his last track day) - said that Track Daz is offering FREE track session for first timers!!!

Track Daz is NOT a cheapie operator. They run corner marshalls, ambulance on site, on-track safety referees and coaching.

What this means is that if you'd ever debated on trying your machine on the track in a controlled environment - with "adult supervision" now is the time!!

Dustin runs a tight ship, Track Daz also does the New Racer School for Willow Springs Motorcycle Club.

The announcement is only a few days old now -- http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=3 9162

TrackDaz is updating their schedule. http://www.trackdaz.com

Tell them you heard it from Slaughter, Dustin's getting some MAJOR points in my book for making this offer! (I get NOTHING for pimping this deal, I just think it's too good NOT to help Dustin get the word out)

(got Blake's permission before posting)

I'm planning on going out to Willow (The Streets track) to see if Steve and the other Buellers are running in a week and a half, but since the weather is going to be so nice this weekend it is time for my other expensive hobby - GOLF.

I'm heading out to Palm Springs area and staying at the La Quinta resort Saturday night. Got a tee time for PGA West Stadium on Sunday, and will probably play La Quinta Mountain on Saturday and a second PGA West course on Sunday afternoon. I use to be a fanatic golfer, but old age (amazingly the contortions of swinging a club just killed my back and left shoulder) has limited my play in recent years.

If I wasn't the designated driver I would bring my truck and motorcycle, but oh well, maybe I'll make up for it by winning a lot of skins in the golf.

UPDATE -- Pasadena Poker Run Postponed to March 27th because of rain forecast.

If you call either number and give them your name and info, you can pre-enter and save $2 off entry fee.

This promises to be a spectacular ride, as these folks usually pull off this time each year, through some very green growth around the lakes, mountains and desert of (which?) Old Town, as it says on the flyer...

Anybody consider sharing vehicle costs or driving my car/trailer to Homecoming?

I may want to have my racebike out there for the track day and pick up a motor and have it hauled back. I just don't have the time for a 2-way drive there and back!

OK, doesn't look like you guys are checking in too often. Hopefully someone sees this soon!

I'm taking a trip to San Diego and looking to find some nice roads to ride while there. Any suggestions from the locals? What's a nice ride? Where are we likely to avoid the cops? I'm bringing my son on his SV650 and I'll have my Uly.

Any recommendations are appreciated.
Cheers!

CJ,
Gotta hit Palomar Mountain. I've only been there a few times, but it rocks and it will be nice weather this time of year. I have never seen a c__, wait, I don't want to jinx it.

Holler if you head up north a little and, if I replaced my exhaust studs and reassembled by then, I'll show ya' GMR, Angeles Crest and even the Rock Store if you have time.
All the best,
Drew

Drew, thanks for the tip.

About four or five years ago, I lived in LA for six whole months. Unfortunately, it was winter the whole time, which I learned translated to rain and overcast for about half a year. I did manage to take my Firebolt up to the Rock Store, but never got to Angeles Crest or anything else interesting. If I do venture up that way, I'll ping you.

Thanks!

I'll throw this account of a mini adventure I did a couple of weeks ago in the pot.

A buddy if mine, who is probably 90% responsible for me getting into "street" motorcycling had a riding event going from the central coast over to Lake Isabella area. They were to start on a Friday (which was the same weekend as the WSMC races occur that I was going to go to on Sunday) so I said I would ride over with them. They all had reservations to stay at Johnny McNally's where some of us stayed last October leading up to the American Sport Bike event in Sequoia, and it was quite a feat getting some of them to agree to ride that far. I had other ideas of going over the mountain range to Lone Pine to check out Mt. Whitney since I had only driven by there once in my life on 395 coming back from Reno. The group consisted of 3 Harleys, 2 BMW's, a gal on a brand spanking new Honda Shadow, and me on my 1125R. Included in the group was a police officer and his wife, and a MSF instructor and his wife, both on the two BMW's. We started from Santa Maria, rode north and collected a few bikes in Nipomo, and continued on to San Luis Obispo for the remaining riders. From there we road up Hwy 101 to 58 going east so we could at least have some twisties to ride. I was riding sweep initially to watch out for Nico on her Honda Shadow, but after an hour or so close to the Carrisa Plains I decided that with a cop, and a MSF guy behind her, here was a chance to go ahead and take some pictures of the group. We came upon a good length straight away and I come out and pass everyone doing about 90 mph and motion that I am going to take some pictures. It must of took me another 10 miles or so of hauling ass to decide on a place to stop for those shots. After my stop I remounted and caught the group in the hills west of McKittrick where we stopped for lunch at the McKittrick Hotel and penny bar. Jaime (the police officer) said when I came flying bye it was all he could do to keep from going with me.
After lunch we rode thru Bakersfield, gassed up, and headed up 178 towards Lake Isabella. We had to stop about 10 miles shy of Isabella because the MSF's wife wasn't feeling good in the heat. Everyone else had started to strip down or remove liners and open jacket vents back at the lunch stop, except for the ATGATT couple. After resting for 20 minutes, the group was going to stop at Isabella for a shake or ice cream, and I said my good bye's and kept going up to Kernville and over the pass to I14/395 and up to Lone Pine.

The view in the evening.

picture

The next mourning. Mt. Whitney is the peak on the right with the spires just off to the left of the summit.

Another friend Glenn, who like to go to the races with me, met me over in Lone Pine later in the evening. He had to take all the straight line freeways to meet me, so he didn't have near the adventure. In the mourning we headed up Whitney Portel to see the peak itself.
