Today I took the cable out of the exhaust actuator to lube it with out taking the actuator off the mount, When I was trying to hold the actuator rotated to get the ferrule back in, the rotor slipped and sprang further around then it was. Has anyone had this happen and does it cause any problems? I ran the test on it and it rotates, but not much. Took the actuator apart and nothing seems broken or out of place.
If anyone knows how the inside timing of the actuator gears are supposed to be set would be appreciated.

If you were able to take it apart you have the early "fragile" model with plastic gears. If your under warranty get it replaced with the updated version. If your not, buy a newer version cuz your going to need it sooner or later anyway. One has a AAA part number and the other is AA I cant remember which is which.

Are bikes like cars where the warranty is different if the item is part of the pollution control system usually anything on the exhaust is part of the pollution control system.

Good point, it should say in the manual somewhere what the required emission control warranty covers.

mine went out this spring.
I did a lot of research on here.

I only had it fixed since it was under warranty.

If its out of warranty I would not fix it.

I would pull the cable open and fix it to stay open.

Then enjoy my new exhaust note.

I would pull the cable open and fix it to stay open.

Only problem is, my '06 ran like poop when I did that. The valve definitely does its job; leave it working.

Thanks for all the input. The gears seemed fine, but I could not get the timing right.I missed something. Gainesville Harley has the updated one in stock and they are mailing it to me today.
I thought about just wiring it open, but I would always know it was not right and that would bug me,so I decided to repair it correctly.
Just as good info, not only did Gainesville have the part in stock, they also gave me a 15% BadWeb discount.

Yeah, the other problem with leaving it disconnected is it will throw a code and then you have to look at that CEL all day long.

Actually, if you have the motor hooked up electronically and just disconnect the actuator cable to the muffler itself...you won't throw a code.

At least, I didn't in over 10k miles with a Drummer.

Long as the ECM sees the right resistance across the plug, it figures the actuator motor is doing what its supposed to do.
