Someone here had posted the Service Bulletin (instructions) for the harness upgrade. Searched for two days without luck. Anyone know where that is located? I had the harness upgrade done and was going to switch out the battery (to SpeedCell 12cells) and was checking the harness. Someone here mentioned that the de-noid resistor has to be taken out to test. Here is the (first) picture of the relevant portion of the harness of the bike without harness update, with the solenoid, and the second picture after the upgrade. HD said nothing about the denoid and the resistor dongle. Note the two open connectors next to the original solenoid connector (one with the dongle). Looks like the solenoid has a new connection route. Just want to confirm that these open connectors should stay open (nothing connected) if de-noided. Or should the dongle move to the new connector (right most)?

If you are not plugged into the noid circuit then the harness is doing exactly nothing...or too much...depending on how you look at it. 8^) In other words, without the power to operate the relay the relay will not energize. I just forget whether that means that the stator will be operating with all three legs connected or with only two...it's been a while since I looked at it. The resistor takes the place of the solenoid and the harness is supposed to be plugged in between the solenoid and the engine harness so I would say that the "dongle" should be plugged into the "new connector (right most)" and the engine harness gets plugged into the one that is left over. My opinion...take it FWIW. |

yes, remove your resistor from the female connector it is in and put it in the other female connector. connect the male connector from the harness into the female connector that you removed your resistor from. right now the way you bike is wired up, you don't use the third leg of charging at all. |

Checked under my seat last night. Same as photos above. Moved the resistor to the wire harness and plugged the wire harness in where the resistor was. Max volts on highway were 13 and it was dropping to 12.3 at stoplights with brights on. Now that everything is plugged in, it's running at 14+ on the highway and only drops to 13 at idle. Thanks for pointing this out! Also, check the zip ties. Mine was installed with 2. Should have been 4. |

Thanks everyone. Wiring reconfigured. So with just the two legs running, when I was coming home from the HD Battley in Maryland, the bike ran fine. Voltage was running between 12.2-14.5. So maybe the stator is just too powerful to begin with. |

Just rode about 50 miles with the correct wiring config. The voltage is now quite steady, running from 13.7-14.2 Volt. Even at traffic stops, with the fan running (CT 196 degrees), the voltage didn't drop below 13.9. Only when I killed the engine and restarted 15minutes later, the voltage dropped to 13.7, and quickly climbed to 14.0V. So I'm wondering if people having voltage going down to low 12V is running on just two legs all the time, like I had when I left the shop. |

Weird. I have checked my harness install (even as far as checking the correct pin at the ECM connector). Mine is installed properly. My relay clicks so I know SOMETHING is going on. However, I regularly see 12.2-12.3V at idle. 14V is pretty solid when moving. ac |

AVC8130, I posted in the other post that my relay doesn't make any clicking noise, but that post is archived. I still have the noid and the noid is plugged into the harness the right way as far as I can tell. I even put my ear to the relay, but couldn't hear it clicking. At one point I thought it was clicking, but it could have been the motor. I assume yours is very audible with the seat removed? I also show 13.7v or higher always. |

My bike had 152 in it prior to taking it to them...so I don't think it could possibly have the wrong flash. I DEFINITELY heard the relay kicking. ac |

OK! I just went and looked at mine and the stock male plug coming from the noid is a dark gray and it was plugged into a light gray female connector on the harness upgrade. The light gray male connector comming from the ecm was plugged into a dark gray connector on the harness upgrade. Am I correct in assuming this is backwards? Did Buell color code the connectors to make this harness upgrade idiot proof, but not Harley mechanic proof? |

So I just tried testing with a Buell Race ECM. Now voltage at idle is over 14v. So now I am left to wonder whether the Race ECM controls the harness properly or not. ac |

In the pic above, the dark gray female connector on the right side of the pic has a light gray connector plugged into it that appears to go to the ecm, The wires are run between the engine and frame on my bike. so that connector should be plugged into the noid |

I don't think you could hook it up wrong. There are 4 total plugs. 1 from ECM (female) 1 from noid/resistor (male) 2 from harness (male and female) They can only go together 1 way if the harness is in the loop and all plugs are accounted for. Right? ac |

sorry, mine were connected to the same color connectors. I mixed them up when I was seeing what goes where. There is a male connector running to the ecm that looks like it was added separate, not part of the new harness. It plugs into a light gray connector which is right next to the subframe cross brace(bar the seat fastens to) on my bike. I assume this is the signal from the ecm that tells the relay to do it's thing. You could plug the noid into that connector or the connector pictured above, they are both the same type of connector, but two different shades of gray. So it appears mine is installed correctly, but I can't tell if it's doing anything. the original posters harness shouldn't have been getting power the way it was wired. That female plug his resistor is plugged into is the power for the noid. |

Oh yes, I forgot about the signal connector from the ECM. I agree. The original poster's install is incorrect. His dealer clearly got confused with the resistor and just chose to ignore completely. LOL ac |

avc8130, did you say you were running the ebr race ecm? if you look on this forum, another member had the same issue with the race ecm. he sent it bad and they reprogrammed it for him. it had a programming glitch. |

is the flash on your stock ecm actually the 152 flash? is it a stock flash? what is the year and make of your bike? |

2009 1125CR Make? LOL 152 as confirmed by the dealer in the fall when 152 first came out. They said they checked the flash as part of the harness install and 152 is current. ac |

I installed the Erik Buell Racing ECM yesterday and rode about 30 miles. The voltage does not change much. Stays around 14 volt at all times. Lowest I've seen is 13.9v when running at idle at traffic stop. Turning on after complete shutoff, after fan finishes cooling, the voltage only drops to 13.7v, which quickly rises to 14+ V, (Message edited by dcmortalcoil on May 22, 2010) |

When they do the harness update they need to flash the ECM to apply changes in the ECM's calibration. |

I have the latest flash & they needed to reflash as there is changes that need to be written to the ECM, for the harness upgrade & the service manager said it needed to be done. I will need to reflash back to my custom map. Maybe he didnt know what he was on about... |

Kicka666, your service manager doesn't know what he was on about. The official service bulletin says to verify the flash is the most current and update if necessary. it lists both flashes for the R and CR and they are the same number as the current ones. |
