Have any of you raced you bike against a Jap or Euro bike? I ask because I raced a coworker of mine while I was on my 1125r and he was on his CBR 1000rr. Once he was able to keep the bike's nose out of the air he was able to catch me and pass me with ease(I was at around 115mph or so when he passed me). Both of our bikes are stock and I thought I would do alright but was in for a rude awakening. As you know, the 1125r claims a 147 horse out put and the CBR1000rr claims to put out 150 horses. So, it should have been a closer race overall based off of the numbers. Just curious what your experiences are regarding racing. Thanks for the insight.

Depends on your definition of racing, but there is a reason that an 1125 races Heavyweight and 1000cc inlines race in Unlimited class in CCS road racing.

Are you comparing crank HP for the R versus RWHP for the HOnda?

If you want to race a literbike in a straight line, you purchased the wrong bike for the application.

However, if you are talking real racing on a circuit, then the R will hang tight to a CBR given equal (non-expert) rider capabilities.

What I have found generally is you will lose a bit on the straights with the R versus a literbike, but you can make it all up in the corners...sometimes surprisingly fast.

I had a buddy of mine help put my 1125R back in my van after the last track day...he was cursing me out because of how much lighter the 1125R is compared to his GSXR1000. They may beat us in the straights, but like Fresno said, if that's why you bought this bike...definitely a mistake.

Get your buddy to go with you in some twisties....

No, no, I didn't buy it to race the straights. I was just curious of how well I could do against a powerhouse like the CBR in the straight. Actually, we had just come back from Ortega Hwy in Lake Elsinore where we had been hitting the twisties. I was eating him up all day there but was curious how I would do in the straights.

RWHP for the CBR might be 150+, but the RWHP for the stock 1125R is about 120+ I believe.

Well what is so confusing is that a lot of these tests say that the Buell 1125r has between 120 and 130 RWHP. So why are they so different? All of these bikes are supposedly being tested in stock form. What tricks are there to create a significant RWHP gain?

Variances more likely due to the dynos.

Although I truly believe the first iteration of the fueling gave more HP than the subsequent flashes. I believe in order to put more fuel in the bottom end, BMC was forced to take from the top end (by the EPA).

The 1125r isn't competitive anywhere against a CBR1000.

The CBR has less weight, gobs more power, and is a competent, capable motorcycle.

I love all three of my 1125r bikes, but a CBR1000 they are not. That's OK for me -- there's so much to love about the Buell -- but just talking forum racing here, the 1125r is turns behind the Honda.

Smoke: This?

I essentially agree with what Jdugger is saying. However, in amateur classes, I don't think that's necessarily the case.

Well, I don't necessarily want to be real competitive in the straights against the likes of the heavy hitters but I do want some added horse power at the wheel. I don't know what I can expect from a different exhaust or the Erik Buell Racing mods but I would hope they can give that extra little punch. But if not, I am still very happy with the R.

Wait for the results of the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout and get an Erik Buell Racing ecm to match.
