Man i'm glad i bought a X1,swapped over the polished wheels from my $500 M2, along with the belt as mines had a stone in it for the last 3k or so. What a breeze its to to on the X1. LaFayette, i went by your tightness info,(thanks)when you say zero slack at the tight spot does zero=zero/tight as hell or slight movement eg 1/4"max?. (Message edited by nallac on May 21, 2010) |

Yeah, I put a belt on my S2 last Thursday and it was pretty peachy as well, once I got a 1/2" Allen to pull the isolator. |

Nallac: Very slight movement as in not tight ... BUELLers: Instructions cover S3, X, M models and models with side plates/plate ... Works basically the same on the XL Belt even thought the frame geometry is a little different, after all you do not want the XL Belt set up TOOO TIGHT either ... The MODELS with the SIDE PLATES/PLATE are much easier to do ... BELT/ISOLATOR REPLACEMENT Class 101 available upon request, just e-mail me ... My OEM Belt only lasted 60K as it came from the FACTORY - DEALER improperly adjusted which shortened the belt life ... |

i set it so there was slight movement. Phelan, no need to remove the Iso on the X1. remove the passenger peg bracket & sideplate theres enough room to slip belt past iso, with a bit of a tweak. |

Looks like the X1 frame with the plate on the right side was exported before it was available the the U.S.A. unless your frame was replaced after 2001 ??? WRONG WRONG WRONG "i" stand corrected, all X1's had the right side plate !!! (Message edited by buellistic on May 21, 2010) |

"Very slight movement as in not tight ... " I assume you're not talking about the slack in the belt since the belt has to be "scary loose". What is this "slight movement" referring to? |

My first belt replacement was silly. Took me three hours in my own garage. Most recent? less than half hour in a police station parking lot! It's a lot more easy when you know what needs to be taken off and what can be left alone! |

The toughest part for me was to lift the rear of the bike I guess to take the weight off the rear ISO(s), according to the book. Now I'm not so sure that is really needed after all... |

I assume you're not talking about the slack in the belt since the belt has to be "scary loose". What is this "slight movement" referring to? yes the belt, with the rear axle, swingarm pivot and front drive sprocket lined up. The toughest part for me was to lift the rear of the bike I guess to take the weight off the rear ISO(s), according to the book. Now I'm not so sure that is really needed after all... not on the X1,but helps to have a rear stand to check belt tension Easy as put bike on rear stand. Remove re axle,(no need to touch adjusters) roll wheel forward, remove the one(or both if wanted) rear foot peg bolt that attaches to frame and the three side plate bolts. move them out of the way, Slide new belt on.(May need to lift frame up from the swingarm slightly, i used a grift to lift it up by about 3mm to get enough clearance). Reinstall everything. Then check your belt tension via Lafayettes info. (Message edited by nallac on May 22, 2010) |
