This one is a weee bit more labor intensive than I had hoped and some of the welding is a real pain. There's not a lot of room to get in between the split. Obviously the design is subject to change and probably will. I'm leaning toward the radiused tube for the outlets, but I can probably mock up a set of slash cuts on it.
Damn dean, that's starting to look like what I originally asked about. I like the look of that alot. Have you had a chance to mount and do a sound check yet? I'd be interested in the radiused tips (leave em long so i can cut the profile I want) how much you getting for one of them?
that would look sick as hell if you could twist them up a couple of degrees so they would peek out of the backside of a belly pan. Lookin Really good Dean, how much??
I gotta have one totally custom one for me. If I had to put a price on it based on time and materials, probably around $1000 simply because it's so time consuming. It is not the easiest one to weld up and get the angles correct. It's still off just a little bit, but you'd have to really be looking hard to find where it's off.
Mickeyq -- Not likely, I'm not sure I've ever even seen one of those.
BTW, the sound department (my wife, thx) says that it's "really loud, very similar to the single round can one" and she told me to shut it down 3 blocks from the house and coast it in.
Xb9er -- I finally got ahold of him, we'll see how things go next week.
I will most likely take it in again just to see what the power output is, but it feels pretty much the same. I haven't wrung it out yet, but just the short bursts, it's very similar to the others. At idle, you can feel it in your chest up to 10 feet away. Beyond that, it just sounds good. 20 feet away, it's not any louder than any other bike out there. Take off on it and it seemed like it got quieter up over 20 mph. Maybe, maybe not, but it sounds very deep toned and mean either way.
can you make something like that, that is remotely quieter? everything i have heard for this bike is obnoxious. I love the design and i like a loud exhaust. i have the race pipe on my XB. but that is wayyyyy too much. is there any way to knock about 6 db off it?
At this point in time, no. I'm looking into something for killing the volume, but I cannot make any promises. The major problem with the tone or volume is the length of the pipe. It's really too short to do much with it without sacrificing power. My original pipe was exactly what I wanted for power/tone/volume/looks. This one is a bit louder, but realistically, I'd say the RT-3 is louder. I just ran out for lunch without ear plugs and it was bearable, whereas the RT-3 is not, at least to me. It also had a rather drastic effect on the idle. It lopes now instead of a constant thump. I will probably unlock the AFV's and let it learn to see what it does. I might bump the idle back up to what it was in stock form. It almost sounds like a harley right now at idle, but that image gets dispelled quite rapidly as soon as you take off.
