1000 miles is a lot to do in a day. Just a heads up your realistically looking at 16+ hours of riding with fuel stops and short breaks. You would be wise to leave before dawn. Ive done some touring on my 1125r. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit but my highest mileage day to date is just shy of 700miles in a day. I dont mind the slab as much as some of you apparently. Riding still beats driving to me. Uly pegs were the best mod I made for the long hauls. I wish I had installed a throttlemiester though. Sometimes its nice to rest your right hand. |

I did 700 miles one day headed to Homecoming 2008 and a 930 in 24 hrs coming home from that trip. I was falling asleep on that last leg... creepy at 75 on a bike, dozing. Tour Select seat and black Uly pegs, 2008 R. Z |

I have done 1k on a st1100, and plan to do another on my fjr1300, but would never consider doing a 'thurs in,Sunday out' and expect to be worth a crap. It took me 18 hours on the st. |

Although I don't get near the mileage Froggy does, I do get better than 6,000 miles out of my tires. I'd prefer 10,000 which is why I'm thinking of switching to Metzeler Z6 Interacs for my next tire change. I'll sacrifice some grip for tire life any day. I rarely ride at the ragged edge anyway and when I do, it's at the track with a fresh set of tires. |
