I am not a violent person; have never even been in a fight with someone else in my life and have no desire to start either. This morning, I came the closest I have ever been to smashing someone's window in and dragging them out of their car by the throat. I'm in the right lane on a 3-lane one way street riding in to work. Dude in a blue Honda Ridgeline is in the left lane gabbing on the phone, darts across both lanes as I'm about even with his front wheels because he wants to suddenly make a right turn. Gave him the horn (no finger, mind you) and a handfull of throttle and I pulled ahead enough to where I was safe. Now completely awake and about half pissed off, I realize hondaman didn't turn; he's now trying to follow me because I can see him cutting in and out of traffic hauling ass. I stay in the right lane, he dodges in front of the car in the center lane, slows and waits for me to get even with his bumper, swerves in front of me and hits the brakes. I have no where to escape, so I stop in the street now thoroughly pissed. I wanted to literally go punch his window out and do god only knows what to his head. Fortunately, reality checked in, I took a pic of his tag and called the police. By that time he knew what I was doing and hauled ass. A good friend of mine is a sheriff's deputy and is going to see if he can organize a little bit of harassment from some of his uniformed motorcycle riding associates. I've seen this guy driving like a dinkus before when I was in my truck. Didn't think anyone would actually try to take a rider out because they got called out for not paying attention. | ||

It is fairly easy to learn to shoot left handed. All it takes is practice. Win the Powerball, put lawyer on retainer and have at the dumbasses. | ||

Isn't it amazing when it was the jerk driver in the first place gets all agressive like that? It's also nice to have law enforcement friends. I had one go talk to a bad driver one time. My buddy said it was funny as hell when he told the driver that they'd be "Watching him". We just had a guy hit from behind while slowing down to pull into a drive off the highway. I'm sure the woman driver was either on the cell phone or busy with something else. Unfortunately, he didn't survive. | ||

I had an incident this summer that, while it scared me pretty badly at first, turned out kind of humorous. I had just bought an 1125, and couldn't seem to get it out of third gear due to driving in the city. So, I got up on a Sunday morning and took it out the interstate for a little run. I rode about 25 miles west out of DC on 66, got off on an exit and headed back as it looked like rain. I was riding along pretty much by myself as there was traffic ahead and behind, but none near me. I was doing about 65 or so keeping up. The speed limit is 55. I looked back in my rear views and they were filled up with black Yukon. I had no idea where this guy came from, but he was hauling. I punched it and put some distance between him and me. Well, we did this two more times. The third and last time, when the traffic gave me nowhere to go, he crossed into the lane beside me and ran up alongside. He was screaming at me and waving his arms and then I saw what looked like smoke boiling off his tires. I didn't know a Yukon could do that...spin tires at 75. I slowed as he forced his way over in front of me, and then he started the same routine on the car in front of me. When I calmed down, I just figured that he was somebody that used his SUV to make up for something he lacked on the inside. I continued on and got off at my exit. As I proceeded I noticed, there was a traffic jam in front of me. Would you believe, there was a black Yukon, with the same hairy little dude in a wife beater driving at 20 MPH down the road, and backing everybody up? As I passed it dawned on me that what I thought was smoke, was transmission fluid and that he must have blown it as he screamed down the interstate after me. I almost felt sorry for him....almost. | ||

I had a similar incident a number of years ago in my subdivision. The speed limit is 25 and I was rolling out at 20 or so. This guy begins to back out of his driveway without looking and I gave him a quick blast of the horn and he stopped. I thought nothing more of it until he pulled up behind me at the stop sign leaving the subdivision and started yelling out his window at me "Don't you have any brakes on that thing?". Once there was a break in traffic I rolled on still not thinking any more of it. We got out on the main road (35 mph speed limit) during school and morning commute traffic. It's stop and go for nearly 2 miles at this point every day as there are two schools at the next major intersection which I was well aware of. Don't you know this guy ends up behind me again sitting in this traffic and starts in on me again! This time I'd had enough. I was in my full, all black leathers as I was off that day and heading out for a long ride. It was hilarious as I got off the bike and put down the side stand he starts rolling up his window. I walked right up to his car and proceed to start cussing him out something fierce. He finally manned up once he realized I wasn't going to harm him and rolled the window down and I really let him have it. I thought he would cry when I got done with him. The funniest part of the whole story is one of my neighbors that are close friends was sitting a few cars back from this scene and ended up banging on my door once they got home from work that night to find out what had happened. They said they were even scared for the guy in the car as they watched me get off my bike and march up to him. I think this individual must have been visiting the house he left from as I never saw that car there again. | ||

Similar things have happened to me. I find that a well placed blow with a Joe Rocket glove will take off a passenger side mirror quite effectively. Sidi boots work on dogs that are allowed to run loose. BTW, I am left handed. I have thought of getting one of those ASP batons. I saw a cop use one on a windshield once. That would get their attention. | ||

Actually, I think that was so they could mark tires in times parking areas. They would have a piece of chalk on a stick and mark them while riding by. | ||

Ride softly and carry a big horn! I'm taking a guess that the horns you were using were stock? If so, I can only imagine the reaction if you used a Stebel Nautilus or similarly loud air horn. In my opinion, these should be standard equipment - either that, or the first mod to any new bike. The volume and tone literally makes drivers flinch. In most of my experiences like these, I find the driver to look sheepish, apologetic, and frankly horrified at the close call that just occurred. It's nice to ride a Uly when you're actually looking down on most of them as you ride by. And, like Irideabuell said, a full, intimidating ATGATT suit with boots and armored gloves always seems to help. I sometimes have to remember that my expressions of anger and frustration with drivers can often be seen as I ride...which can sometimes be helpful to convey your outrage at their behavior, but also fuel the roadrage of some of the yahoos out there. | ||

Scariest I ever experienced, I was riding behind a real hothead buddy on his GSX-R in Manhattan, lane splitting at a red light on the West Side Highway in heavy rush hour traffic. Some douche in a tinted Escalade decided he didn't like us getting home faster than him so he opened his door right into my friends bike, knocking him to the ground. My friend got up, took off his helmet and broke both drivers side windows and spiderwebbed the guys windshield with it. Two pretty big guys jumped out of the Escalade and starting yelling at him so he just socked the driver right in the face with his armored Alpinestar gloves. The other dude was smart enough to just get back in the car and call the cops. This all happened in about 30 seconds, by the time I got into neutral and put the sidestand down my friend was already picking his bike back up. We jetted outta there and never heard anything further about the whole incident. | ||

 Even have a happy ending for y'all. Many moons ago, In Southern MD, I was on my way to work, NAS Pax River. MD 235, 2 lane road, Kaw Z1R (I said MANY moons ago), only somewhat over the posted 55. Old Pickup came up a dirt road on the right, stopped, then pulled out directly in front of me. I managed to yank it around him, fortunately no one in the oncoming lane. I was too busy for the horn or finger. The guy followed me a mile or so up the road to the 4 lane then pulled alongside and honked and pointed to the roadside. I thought, sure, why not? Leathers, 3/4 helmet, steel toes, sap gloves, major adrenalin rush. As I climbed off, the guy, a 50ish local farmer/waterman,came trotting up and said, "Damn, man, I nearly killed you, I am so damn sorry!" After I got back up, he told me that he felt he was a good driver and that he had actually stopped and looked down the road before he pulled out. We talked about it for a minute or 2 and figured that the rising sun behind me and the chrome strip channeling his window and wind wing neatly blotted me from view. We chatted for a minute, shook hands, and I thanked him for being 1 out of thousands. He invited me to hunt or crab on his place any time and we traded phone numbers. I was really glad I hadn't flipped him off. I've been two-wheeling since 1970 and my other thousand or so stories don't end this way. | ||

That's some interesting stories. Mine is similar in many regards. Last December ('08) I had went to a friends house across town. Well actually in Rio Rancho, but these days Albuquerque and Rio Rancho blend into one. It was a nice 50ish when I left, great day for a ride really. On my way back that night it was a different story. A storm from had moved in and it had dropped to about 30 degrees. About half way home, it started to sleet/snow. At this point I had been riding for less than 6 months and here in NM we don't get a lot of rain, so lets say my wet riding experience is not much. Well, I am riding up a 3 lane major thru fare. The speed limit is 55, but I am tooling along at about 50 because of the weather. As I just get into an intersection, this 17 year old girl in a Chevy s-10 pulls out in front of me. I freak and serve out of the way. When I get the bike into the next lane and straighten up, the rear tire breaks loose and I start this 50 MPH drift... in the snow... As a gut reaction I hit the rear break. As it turns out the was about the best thing to do as it stopped the drift. At the next light I noticed she had her drivers side window down so I let her have it. The only response I got was and "f- you" and for her to roll her window back up. Felt better after the "you almost killed me back there you dumb [expletive deleted]" comment. I swear the the more I visit other places, the worse New Mexico drivers seem. | ||

I bought my first street bike in 19 and 82  I have ridden all over the country on all kinds of bikes.I have been cut off,chased down,had garbage cans and marbles thrown out in front of me and even got mooned once by a cheerleader!Heck I even had bottle rockets shot at me on Sunrise HWY when NY won the chanpionship.I lost it one time in Florida and kicked a dent in a guys van door in traffic(who looked mortified)and then escaped in traffic.I have just come to terms with the fact that I am invisible and drivers that don't see you never will.You can't make chicken soup out of chicken sh@t.All in all i have been treated better.met more people,had better stories to tell and had a better time traveling on my bike than ever in a cage.It seems like any time I was in trouble on the road people were more likely to help me when I was on two wheels.Kids wave at me out of the back of trucks and cars and when I stopped for fuel folks wanted to know about my bike and had a story about a motorcycle of some kind.I guess all I am trying to say is I would rather be pissed off on my bike than in my truckHave fun fellers! | ||

in several years and many many miles the most recent incident was nearly being run over by a lady who had stopped past the stop stripe in a left turn lane. after the crossing traffic had already passed then she decided to put it into reverse i'm guessing she thought to trip the sensors. the sun was in her face but i was behind her and right in her right mirror with my HID's blazen' but that didn't stop her. having had this kind of thing happen before i almost never stop directly behind cars always to one side or the other. so she didnt hit me the guy behind me starts honking at her(guess the radio was up to loud) she finally stopped when i slapped the shit outta her trunk lid with my icon ti-max gloved hand. funny thing was she really didn't know what hit her so she thought she hit me and then wouldn't go.... i finally squeezed out around her and left. leg over the bike=cloaking device | ||

Had a dude come screaming up beside me this morning on US 50 near Arlington. I was in the right lane doing the speed limit (like a damned fool) when he screams up beside me on my left and turns right into me. That nearly ended my ride for the day. I must have forgotten that in Virginia the right turn lane is any lane BUT the right turn lane. What I would have given for a Virginia State Trooper! | ||

Just a quick question, do most of you feel that when you are driving a cager, are you a better driver BECAUSE you ride a motorcycle? I know that since I started riding again, taking the RIDERS EDGE classes, and the addition of the twins, I have been a much more attentive cage driver. just wondering what you guys think. | ||

AND because I have driven an old worn out dump truck full of gravel or pulling a backhoe, and a school bus full of kids (wild Boy Scouts, in my case). As soon as they put me in charge of drivers license requirements, everybody will have to drive all three in rush hour traffic. Rotzaruck! |
