Looking for a shop or mechanic that does good work for reasonable prices. I can't believe Harley wants $102.00 just to put the tire on and they quoted a price of $200 for a tire that I just bought on line for $150. How is $350 a good price for one tire? They are ridiculous! I appreciate any insight you all have to offer. Thanks! | ||

Cycle gear can mount the tire pretty reasonably. Something like $25 for each end (from memory) I am assuming that you are bringing in the wheels for them to work? If you want to ride the bike in, have them change rubber and ride out - you WILL pay through the nose at ANY dealer or mechanic. | ||

That's nothing. I corded my rear tire last week on the way out to Napa, CA. Only place that had a replacement tire charged me $130.00 labor. I fully expected to pay full retail for the tire but think they even charged more for it - $250 for a Scorpion Sync. My wife corded the rear on her Ducati earlier in the trip. An HD shop that was open on that Sun(including Service Dept) charged $30 for the same service. You find out who your friends are... Nels | ||

Well I bought the bike from Skip Fordyce Harley in Riverside. So, that were I have been taking it since 08. Yeah, they are a great group but damn, they will put you through the ringer! | ||

Malcolm Smith will not work on any bike they do not carry for sale. Many if not most shops I've asked have this same policy. Corona Motorsports says they will do it I they have the necessary tools, but it's not that much of a discount --- $80 plus balance. | ||

Thank goodness for the HD shop that helped us out. 790 miles away from home and into a 4,300 mile trip with a corded tire on a Sunday is not a good position to be in. Fortunately this shop was kind enough to help us out and we are grateful. Sold us a tire that by my calculations would fit(it did), only charged $30 for the mount and balance, and fit us in immediately(we didn't ask for this) since we were travelers and on a schedule. Yeah I know, you just have to bring them the wheel off the bike. My buddy does goes there to get his tires mounted and balanced for his M2. | ||

Not Riverside, but not far away...I go to Cycle Rider in Montclair. Between the 10 and 60 freeways. Buy from them, mount and balance is free. While the tires aren't as cheap as Chapparal, by the time mount and bal. are done, it works out much better thAn Chapparal. Plus the guys are good at NOT...scratching the wheels and they are fairly quick. The wheel has to be off the bike. Mike |
