Hey- So I just bought an '06, and the previous owner kept the bags for his 2010. I did some searching, but found marginal results. Some questions for you, and perhaps you can share the threads that you have bookmarked with your all-importnant Uly info! 1) What's my best bet for bags and brackets? I will likely use them for 5-8 trips/year, most of them only weekend camping trips. My point: I don't want to spend $1500! I don't need the biggest and best, i need something adequate. I've been using soft bags for years, so i know how to pack and keep stuff dry...so if the bags aren't perfectly water tight even, I'm ok. 2) What things do I need to be looking at to upgrade on the '06? I've asked about the 77 connector, the wheel bearing are new, the belt looks good (and it came with a spare), what else? Thanks! |

Take the seat off and look at the ecm, see if the seat has been rubbing either of the two ECM connectors. If yes, report back and you will gets some ideas on fixes With the bike running turn the handlebars full lock left then right, while doing this cop a feel of the wiring harness at the neck and see if by moving the wires around you can force a stutter or short that will cause the bike to miss or die. Check your clutch cable at the front of the engine (right side as you ride it) and see if the clutch cable has a small wire holder or a thing grommet style cable holder. Report back Change the fluids for your satisfaction of knowing they are new Take the air box off and make sure you can pull open and close the Muffler Servo Flap. Look at the front of the bike, behind the forks at the front motor isolator. Make sure it has not dropped down and or is in good shape. |

For luggage, I'd probably go with the Happy-Trails aluminum bags. I know some people with Wee Stroms who love them. Reasonable as far as hard bags go, for $725 for the whole set up. |

Thanks Micah, I'll go through all of that stuff tonight. Man the Happy Trails bags are ugly! Very cool if that's what you're going for- very rugged looking. I see they sell brackets- where is the best/cheapest place to buy the brackets from? ....or should i just be looking for a factory kit and call it done? |

I have the factory Journey bags and I like them cause a helmet fits in them. They are not waterproof and the latches can break but you may be able to find some cheap used ones. |

I just bought an 06 Uly with 2 bags, and have been thinking about getting a CooCase for the topcase. Prices don't look too bad www.coocase.com |

There should be a used set of Journeys up on this site, also check Advrider. I have gone to Gobi's - used at about $400.00. If you want huge, Pelican 1440's mount up nicely with the HT mounting pucks, all for about $300.00, but will cost you the passenger grab bar & triple tail for opening clearance. The Gobi's are keepers. YMMV |

The bike has the updated clutch cable holder. The bike hasn't been dropped. I did do the slow tip over, gently set it down, holy crap this thing is high and where is the ground, can't stop it deal at the gas station the second time I filled up. The front isolater looks as good as my 2010. Having said that, it's not that expensive of a part either. I forgot to tell you the other night, there is a guy on the ADVrider site selling alum. bags for reasonable. Epics, I think. |

Awesome, thanks for the input Jon. BTW, I didn't ask any of this to discredit or distrust you in anyway! I am very familiar with the "quirks" of the early XBs and the tubers....but I know that the Uly has it's own set! I just want to know what I should be looking out for. I'll go check out advrider, thanks for the heads up. Oh, and change you profile pic! |

I think the Happy-Trail bags come complete with the mounting kits, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for. Had I purchased an X instead of an XT, that's what I would have gone for. |

No worries Andy, just trying to help. The work order for the cable guide thing is in the paperwork I gave you. I actually bought it with the intention of putting it on myself and they put it on for me while doing some other work on the bike. As far as the profile pic goes, I'm going to have to wait till August. Shanda and I are going to take a bike trip down to GA/NC/Tn and I'll get a new pic then. |

Cool, thanks for that input Chris. They are not really what I'm looking for- would prefer something more like the stockers. However, I love the looks of those for the right bike! Jon, sounds like a GREAT trip for taking profile pics! My current profile pic was taken on a camping trip up north (almost to the Canadian border) last summer. Something tells me I'll be taking many more trip like that this year now that I have a Uly! The standard bags are Hepco and Becker...what about the ones that came on the Xp bikes? Who made those? I really like the look of them, and I think they would be large enough for my use. Also, has anyone here used the Palmer top case rack? Any good? |

the xp bikes have HB's too. I believe they are 30L juniors. I looked in to getting the Palmer top case rack and heard a lot of nice things about it from fellow badwebbers. Steve046 sent me pictures of how he mounted a HB adapter plate to the palmer rack allowing him to use HB topcases. He put a 50L journey topcase on it which looked cool. |

For luggage could buy the Happy Trails side rack http://www.happy-trail.com/Products/Buell-Ulysses- SU-Side-Rack__HTP2-1-1B.aspx Happy Trails Pannier Mount kit http://www.happy-trail.com/Happy-Trails-Pannier-Mo unt-Kit.aspx Then get EP!C Panniers http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54 9028 That is what I did. I like them a lot. Just need to go get some holes filled in from relocating mounting kit on them. Weight wise about 25lb with all of the stuff on. |

You might want to check out these instead of EP!C Panniers. It seems that he will get back to you unlike EP!C. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48 0867 |
