Damn... this is confusing. I wish somehow we could clearly point the finger here. It's a bad mix of too many variables: dealer/mechanic error, "some" stators being bad/short-lived, while others are fine (are there date-related serial numbers on these? Did Buell change their supplier at some point? Is it just "luck-o-the-draw?").

I've got 1500 miles, at least 500 of which are stop and go city riding with zero charging problems -- IC indicates the alternator is feeding around 14 volts all the time, and I've never seen any "flickers" etc.

Like a good boy, I contacted the dealer when I got the notice, and my harness is there waiting for me to bring the bike in.
But all of a sudden, I'm in no hurry to do so.

I don't think there have been any problems with the charging harness fix, except those that have had dealer installation errors or those that had a stator that was bad before the fix, and was going to go anyway.
The voltage has been good on my bike, the battery is bad, because the dealer let it sit on the floor and never charged it, but i'm still going to do the recall.

I have a feeling that without the harness you are headed towards a burned out stator and you will get the harness anyway when they replace your stator

Before upgrade only issue if I didn't use a battery tender was that sometimes for no reason a throttle blip at low rpm's kills the bike. Happens in traffic at stop lights from time to time. Since the upgrade it seems worse to be honest happens twice at much and I still have to leave the bike on a tender or im screwed so a small issue still exists and is slightly more pronounced.

400 miles... no problems yet... BUT... I did notice the battery light linger on when I turned the key to start... and come on simply from me turning the key to test some turn signals I put on. I'm guessing I'll be back in the shop with a fried stator in about 6K.

btw... took my dealer a month and half to get the stator in... month and a half without my bike... Anyone ever call HD finance and say anything like "Charge the dealer... or yourselves... or whatever for this months payment cause my bike has been in your shop waiting on warranty repairs for over a month."

No issues before or after the update, about 250 miles on the new harness.

lol this thread just to the fact that guys on here don't ride their bikes as much as I thought. You guys just ride on Sundays or what? There are a few of us that ride and actually put miles on our bikes but only a handful.

Sorry, back on topic...

@4.2K my stator died. 3.5K with a new stator and harness and shes perfect.

Capt., I've got four bikes in my garage but the Buell has been getting the most attention. Still, I can't ignore the others. Luckily (?) one bike is my friend's and he will be picking it up soon so I can spread the love a little thicker amongst my 3. I ride with the "service" odometer on anxiously awaiting the 620 mile service when I change over to Redline and hopefully have the E B R ECM and an Keda exhaust by then.

09cr 4400 miles, no issues, I commute approx 40 miles one way to work. Bike seems fine. Dealer has my upgrade ordered, not sure I need it.... I hope it comes in around December.

I just picked my bike up from the dealer today after having the "upgrade" performed. Approximately 20 miles away, I began noticing that the system voltage was steadily dropping. After seeing a System Voltage error, check engine light, and battery light the voltage finally dropped to 8.5! I called the dealer and they came to pick the bike back up. They're going to take a look at it and let me know what's wrong tomorrow.

I'm really hoping it's something as simple as the harness being installed incorrectly because I don't want to be waiting on a stator for weeks. The stator was replaced already at around 3,500 miles and I've had zero issues since. I kind of wish I hadn't of taken my bike in now.
