Well rididng all those wheelies finally caught up to me last monday night. Fortunatly I was only traveling 35 mph and still in first gear when i crashed and not the usual 85 mph wheelie down the four lane. A note to all who like to ride wheelies or would like to learn- keep your foot hovering over the rear brake, this was my downfall. when i wheelied too far past balance point i had the ball of my foot on the peg instead of the arch so i couldnt reach the rear brake and now i have a road rashed ass, hands, and knees to show for it. be careful out there.

Sorry to hear about your crash. It sounds like you're relatively unscathed though. Post some pics of your bike damage.

85 MPH wheelies down the four lane?
I guess i'm not too sorry you went down, sounds like you needed a good lesson.
I'm just glad you didn't take anyone else out, while performing your idiotic stunts on a public road.
Perhaps in the future, you will wear proper gear, and perform your "stunts" off of public roads.

Sorry if I come off sounding mean, but I have little tolerance, or compassion, for folks who put others at risk for their own personal enjoyment.

Yeah, it's sorta hard to have alot of sympathy for a 100% self-induced accident...now, if some cager turned left in front of you it would be completely different. There have been a rash of those type of accidents here in my area--all fatal. Cagers turning in front of bikes.

I have gotten to the point of flashing my high beams rapidly at all possible occasions when a cager could turn left in front of me. I also have a high viz yellow jacket coming next week. This is the most dangerous thing we face IMO--due to the frequent occurrence and high probability of being very serious or fatal.

BAAAAD idea, it'll look to them as if you're flashing to say it's OK to pull across you

+1 Bartimus...

doing these wheelies on public roads is 110% selfish and idiotic. There are enough empty parking lots and bike night events to practice at.

Sitting on a Buell is attention getting enough... but if that isn't enough attention... how about get a sick helmet... or ride wearing nothing but a dress belt, tube top, and jelly shoes... but enough of the stunts on public roads huh.

I don't believe motorists take a bike flashing headlights as "pull out in front of me." Cops have blinking headlights. Also, the morons which will make a left turn in front of you will not know what flashing headlights typically means. The drivers that are aware of the unwritten meaning of flashing headlights will be smart enough to know not to proceed. I would rather be proactive than just hope I am seen on the road.

Someone flashes their lights at me I start looking for the speedtrap. Is there a different unwritten meaning? If so maybe it should be written : )

Flashing lights (esp among truckers ) mean "you are clear, go ahead and merge back into my lane." As far as speed traps, patting the top of your helmet is a signal as is the obvious "slow down" hand movement.

flashing lights in my mind =

vehicle coming towards you= "police ahead... be careful"

behind me or at a intersection= "go ahead". sometimes a vehicle will flash behind me meaning--- "get out of my way"... upon which I slow down a tad cause... well... because why should I move cause you want to go faster (I'm already going 10 over the speed limit).

bike doing a wheelie down the 4 lane... or any lane= "look at me look at me everyone... I can do a wheelie... I'm crazy cool!"

meanwhile other riders\ cagers are really thinking= "effin idiot" "one of these days..." with the slow head shake from side to side for added effect

only people that get a kick out of it= teenagers and kids... other wheelie fruitcakes... all of which= immature and dont think of other's safety... only their own attention getting capabilities.

Since on the subject of headlights and oncoming traffic, the flashing could be taken either way, but one thing to do is to move side to side a bit to subconsciously get the drivers to notice. Seeing just the one point of light moving in one spot does not register as much as one moving across the field of vision.

Sorry man, sounds like you got lucky yourself, hopefully the bike's not too bad either.

I'm afraid I'm a wheelie junky also, but I never do them when I see another vehicle anywhere in sight. Funny how some folks jump on the showing-off or attention thing, not everyone does wheelies for that reason. I'm embarrassed if someone sees me acting like an idiot like that, given an empty stretch of road yea "I get it up" and the feeling is what it's about, but usually don't mention it cause like I say, it's nothing to brag about.

The 1125s are a little tricky to me cause the rear brake feels very soft to me, not the feel I've had in my many other sport bikes & dirt bikes, etc.

My rules, not the best, but...Try to keep it in the parking lots, if you do it on a road make sure no vehicles are around, and gear-up ... always. (not condoning or lecturing, just sharing)

Can you please stop riding like a fool, adding to the negative stigma of sportbike riding, and raising my rates? Stunters give us all a bad name and a bad rep. If stunters kept it off the street, the rest of us would have a better attitude. For example, track guys in particular have gone to the effort (time and expense) to get their behavior off the streets and onto the track, many of them also disdain those who sportriders fast on the street for the same reason. Bottom line, take your shit off the street, where you’ve hurt yourself and next time you’ll hurt some one who’s innocent.

I am glad you're ok thou.

Good luck.

There a recall on that yet?

Im absolutely shocked that no one has chimed in to say "Its riders like you that raise insurance rates." Usually some idiot brings that to an atgatt or like topic.

Please, everyone get off your high horses. We all ride knowing its dangerous and its exciting. People in cages judge us constantly, and love to tell stories about every motorcyclist they ever knew that got hurt. You would think that we as a group could spare eachother that bull.

No one does wheelies, or burnouts, or rides over the speed limit without knowing the dangers. Dont think for a second that any "holier than thou" rant on the freeking internet is doing anyone any good, it just makes you sound arrogant.

Its not as if the guy doesnt know he f-ed up, anyone piling on top of that to make themselves sound better or more responsible needs to just save that stuff. We all make choices. To cagers, you are f-ing stupid for riding because its dangerous. To other bikers, you are stupid for riding enthusiastically on the streets. To those riders, you are stupid for pulling a wheelie. Its all subjective and relative to your own comfort level, or sense of elitism for that matter.

I am glad you were not hurt more than you described. Your survival is based on prudence, the ability to govern oneself with reason, not testosterone, reason.

Everyone has been stupid once in a while.

Welcome to the human race.

Socoken... *sigh*... The fellow who started this thread began it to receive sympathy and perhaps a few "you're uber cool!" high-fives. Perhaps he thought he would start a thread where everyone pats themselves on the back for being Xtreme.

I have always been proud of my Buells and the Buell community... but this thread makes me even prouder of the group... excluding yourself and dude.

Perhaps you guys should ride CBR's or R-whatevers... I hear those guys are pretty Xtreme and enjoy blaming cops for their accidents and tickets... oh sorry... gotta speak the Xtreme rider lingo... Pigs.

You will not hear any "attaboy's" from me... and from what I hear... many other Buell riders for riding like an attention craving idiot.

Yes all of us sportbike riders enjoy the power and performance offered by our bikes... I get a kick out of "hitting it" on highway onramps... when the light turns green... etc... AND... for the real adrenaline rush I go to the track\drag strips... like any other responsible adult.

There is a time and place for everything... public roads are not training grounds for your so-called stunts.

I will admit that the real stunters are nothing less than awing... amazing how effortless they do their thing... and I frequent bike nights and other events to watch them and be around other bikes. Stunts during the proper setting are awesome... stunts on public roads= you're an idiot. I'm not on a high horse... I'm saying facts... and no... its not subjective.

Fres- Ha!

Baggh- I dont stunt. I am too poor to buy tires from burnouts or wheelies. I dont even push it hard on a tight twisty road because, to be honest, Im not that fast. Ive never had a knee down, and Ive never done a track day. All in all, I ride as responsible as I drive.

Again, save it.

Good job! Glad you are getting back on the horse...to each their own on how to ride.

If those who say they are perfect and don't ever ride hard or do a wheelies just remember everyone has skeletons in their closets and Im sure you have broke the law or endangered someone sometime in your life.
By being happy for someone elses tragic you'll find karma will come back for you!

If you are directing that brilliant comment to me... if you consider speeding tickets on the freeway stunting, guilty as charged. However, as most intelligent people realize, speeding tickets are for the most part just being unlucky. I know plenty of idiot riders that go for years without getting nailed. Others get nailed several times in a year for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A few speeding tickets and being in California will do a number on your insurance premiums. For me, I only have liability/comp. cause I would pay the bike's value in a couple years time for the collision premium.

Oh yeah, if you dont believe there is a direct connection between the rate people wand their sportbike and sportbike insurance premiums, well you are dead wrong. There is a reason my lia/comp is a few hundred dollars a year and my collision is two or three grand.
