All, Happened to be in an O'Reilly/Kragen store on Friday - all Mobil 1 oil was on sale for $4.99/quart; limit of 12 qts. Not sure if that's a local price, California only, etc. but figured I'd pass it along. |

I've been paying 9.99 a quart at advance auto. I've never seen it that cheap. Is it 20/50w? |

It's probably the car stuff which probably shouldn't be used in the gearbox. |

15W-50 works fine in the gearbox. 50,000 miles and still good on mine. |

This might start a problem, but I hope not. What the heck is the difference between 20/50w and 15/50w? Is that 5 whatever points a big deal? Please don't get to mad for asking. |

The issue is that the enhanced wear protection "stuff" added to the car oils could possibly (still no real solid proof) cause issues with the wet clutch. Should be fine for the engine oil but I'm still not sold on the idea for the transmission. For the time being I am sticking to oils that specifically say they are designed for wet clutch usage in the transmission. |

Greg_e - I'm not sure that Mobil 1 (at least the 15W50)has the "energy conserving" label on it with those additives - but I'm in an airport and not in the garage. Seems there are quite a few "old timers" on this board who use it. I use it in my R1100GS (engine, not tranny) and haven't put it in either hole in the XB yet. |

I just decided that with the weather here I would probably only get to change it once a year so the V-Twin was fine. I'll probably go with the Rotella T6 next time though since I can buy it in a gallon size (saves money) and is cheaper by a little bit at around $20-$25 per gallon. |

I checked my local O'Reilly and they had Mobile 1 on sale for $4.99. But they also stocked the Mobile 1 V-Twin 20w50 that I have run in my Buells still at $9.49 each! Walmart usually stocks V-Twin for right around $8 in our region. |
