so one of my headlights is out on my 9r, and i'm looking for new ones i stil have to stock ones in my barn that were replaced due to the fact that they catch on fire. if i really wanted to i could use them, but i prefer a bike thats not on flames. so with that said what do you guys suggest as far as headlights? i dont want to spend to much $$$ and if i just go to advanced auto parts what bulb should i look for (part # and/or name) i stopped in there the other day and they couldnt look up what bulb i needed for some reason and i didnt know, so here i am to ask all of you | ||

Hella makes some 80mm halogen powered servo controlled high/low headlight assemblies that might fit with a small amount of work. They are almost in the range of affordable at about $250-$280 each. They also have the BiXenon version but it is more than $500 each after you assemble all the parts. The nice thing about these Hella lights is the are supposed to be DOT approved for after market additions/replacements on vehicles so it should even be legal to run them. These would give you both lights all the time! This is (in my opinion) the correct way to do the twin side by side lights. Also the more expensive way to them. If you were after something cheaper, then there are some Hella 60mm or 80mm low or high beam assemblies that were much cheaper and one person reported that they worked WAY better than any stock Buell light so it might be worth a search to find them. A dealer in PA carries all this stuff and has good prices (forget the name). | ||

i got some round cheapies from auto zone. siliconed them onto the stock housing, or bracket type thing, and made sure i had a 55w and 100w for high and low. for about $30 total, you get new lights that won't break the bank or spontaneously combust. | ||

I used a set of Hellas, if you search there is a thread here about mounting them, and the difference. Well worth the time. | ||

you are just needing the bulb right? colored bulbs a waste of money in my opinion, adding a filter to a light (the blue coating) reduces output. if you need bulbs or modules let me know I have 2 XB R headlight modules with bulbs that I had intended to integrate into a Lightning housing but didn't have the clearance to get the look I wanted. they will probably just sit and gather dust if nobody else ends up using them for something. | ||

Silverstars if you're looking for brighter halogens. DON'T buy those retarded blue ricer bulbs. They'll probably have "JDM" or "Supa fast Nos power" on the packaging. Stay away. | ||

- I have an 03 like you do. Yesterday I got a second high-beam to replace my low beam. So two highs. Turns out, they have updated the design of the high since the old 03 version. It looks very much improved in terms of design even in regards to its reflector. It is even brighter than my old high beam. You see, they added a fresnel pattern to the front of the lens. Think of the wavy glass on the lamps you see in lighthouses. A fresnel will focus and bend the visible light to a common point of intensity. Updated part# y0427.5aa $79 I never thought I'd be recommending the buell lights. But I am very happy with the update, the quality and amount of light output. - | ||

According to my shop manual they are H9 and both are 55 watt. How can both the low and high be 55watt? Is it simply the shape of the reflector? Firebolts are H3. The hi and low but use 55w bulbs but the projector lense on each headlight fixture has a different light pattern. (Message edited by terrys1980 on May 08, 2010) | ||
