My battery light is coming on now with this ecm, it will idle around 1100-1200 volts at 11.8-11.9 sitting still at a long light. Once moving goes to over 12 volts and light goes off. Anyone else with this ecm having same situation. Its only at a long stop once you get going everything is ok. My bike is a June 2008 1125R. |

I don't have that problem but mine idles around 1,500 rpm. That is probable the difference. Did you spec the lower idle? |

Let's see: long periods of idle at low RPMs, and then you probably keep the revs really low during normal riding. What do you expect, really? Go *** RIDE *** the bike. Get the revs up and keep them up and all sorts of "problems" will go away. This is not unusual motorcycle behavior. Anyone remember the Honda Nighthawk 650? It actually ran the battery down unless above 2600 RPM or so! |

Mine Erik Buell Racing ECM w/pg idles at about 1700 and no light , +1 on what Cc said . Some people have posted getting / requesting a lower idle , and has been suggested that it was set higher for the charging system .... |

I had a similar story from last night after a 1.5hr joy ride of mixed city and highway. I have the elec. harness upgrade and the *stock* ECM with the latest flash. Initially the volts were ready 13.9-14 and then the last 40 minutes sitting at several traffic lights the voltage dropped to 11.6. I thought "uh-oh, better start stretching my legs cause it's going to be a long walk", but I made it to the highway and the volts would only climb to 12.2. Thereafter at any light the volts would drop to 11.7 and only bounce back to 12.2 when riding. Had to shut the bike off at 11.7v; hope it starts in a few days... Need to call the dealer and start the elimination process. |

No riding it the light never comes on ill take it to redline in 2nd and 3rd must be the low idle then |

I think Zac noted the same scenario with his Erik Buell Racing ECM with lowered idle, but he's out riding since it's Saturday (for him). |

Honestly, I think you will find the battery charges much better when you ride consistently in the 5k - 7k range for a longer period of time than just a couple of quick runs up to redline. It's really more about where you cruise than what peak you get the revs too... |

If you are at a long light, the bike should be off anyway But yea, thats why the stock ECM and most race ECMs had the higher idle. It was mentioned a while back by someone from Erik Buell Racing that the lower idle will not keep the bike charged during extended stops. |

i have the race ecm, with the 1200 lower idle, updated harness..no issues, with low voltage to date, but i agree some spirited riding is called for. |

Yes dudes at jennings gp i keep it between 5000-9500, i just red some older posts sorry to bother you guys on the voltage and low idle with erik buell ecm. some of you are very up tight on forum come to deals gap in two weeks and we will see who can ride. |

I don't know if this is relevant, but with my Erik Buell Racing race ECM and my idle lowered by request my bike delivers 13.2v-13.4v @ 1250rpm's, BUT, I always keep it on a battery tender when not riding. I do believe its very important to have a fully charged battery to start with. AND I do not get caught in stop and go traffic very often raising temps. that may impede charging. I very seldom see under 3000 rpm when riding. Just my personal experience. My 1125R is #296 and an Oct.'07 build. |

this florida stop and go traffic bites, I only noticed it today at a 8-10 minute light, it one of those lights where the bike does not have a big enough magnetic field or enough weight to change the light, once on my way all was good. Twos Wheels Inn in Robinsville NC 17th-23rd this month lets do some real riding, any interested call me 813-426-2829 ask for Jack, lets have fun dudes. |

your stator is on it's way out of town that is how mine did until it completely fried itself..I rode home from work ,started at 12.8 volts when i left work and as i went down the street at my house had no speedo, misfiring badly with 8.5 volts showing ,then it died, coasted the last 100 feet down the driveway, that was 18 miles from work to home. Two days later after fully charging the battery with a battery tender I unhooked the headlite and rode it 24 miles to the dealer and the voltage started at 12.7 and was 11.7 when i got there, disconnecting the headlite let me ride it all the way there if it had been on i would not have made it ....Now I have to wait for a stator to become available...hope before Homecoming in June.... |

Mine 09 1125CR with stock ecm (harness not upgraded yet) does the opposite in terms of the voltage changing. At idle, sitting in traffic, the voltage goes up to 14.4 volt. As soon as I move in traffic or even go out to highway, the voltage drops to 13.4-13.8 volts. The voltage rises back to 14-14.4 again when I go slow in traffic. Seems like the alternator is doing better job of charging at the lower rpm. |

I took batt cable off last night now it seems better now, cold start up its at 13.9-14.3 volts, warmed up idle at 1200 its staying right at 12.0-12.4 |

An easily overlooked cure: clean and adjust the battery connections. My battery is over 2 years old and it's still hanging in there. I road all Winter and on the coldest days used heated gloves and jacket. I only had to put the battery on a charger once to top it off. It was still keeping the bike alive but volts had dropped to 11.9 with the engine off. |

I have DDM HIDs in the CR and Erik Buell Racing ECM at 1100-1200. Bike died on me and I jumped it because I couldn't bump it with 2 people pushing. I wasn't even running in stop and go much. Rode it home, replaced w/stock ECM. Jumped it and took it to dealer. They said it was fine although my battery was dead. Blamed it on the HIDs and LED tail light. I rode it just one day with the stock ECM and can't stand how much worse it runs. I guess I'll try the Erik Buell Racing ECM again and try to keep the revs up. I like the brighter lights and didn't have an issue before the harness update. If I get a new stator is it the same part or an updated stronger version? Hmmm. I am thinking this might be a glitch in the software? I put in the Erik Buell Racing ECM yesterday in a bike which has never displayed the battery light (or any trouble light thankfully.) WHen I turned the key the first time, I noticed the battery light was one. I chalked it up to a new ECM in the the bike. However, after riding quite a bit the last couple days I have noticed it more often than not will display the battery light both before startup and after shutdown. My charging volts during riding fluctuates between 13.8 and 14.1 vlots. I am not concerned yet as at no time has the bike given a sign the battery is not at 100%. Keeping an eye on it however. |

Skntpig, is your dealer Effing retarded? Lets see here: LED lights take less power to operate if i remember correctly !! HID's? nope. That wont do it either. |

i also have rear leds, (less electric draw), ddm hd lights, same wattage in the cottage ( 55 on my cr) and race ecm, new harness, the voltage varies more, but i think it is suppose to, so you DONT fry the stator. as a matter of fact after the hid low beam install, i run with the low beam on all the time, vs previous, where i would have to run the high beam all day. |

Heat output from the stator is the same regardless of electrical load. I asked someone in the know a few weeks back |
