i pulled a bunch of left over from a previous owner piston pieces out of my S1W motor by removing the motor, heads, jugs and pistons and rolling it upside down and flushing it with solvent and an air blower. been running now for about 6 years with the new top end, oil pump gear and xb oil pump. tim |

Tim: I like your solution. I'm just not strong enough to pick my whole bike up, turn it upside down, and shake it! My next move is to try to remove the remains of the bearing shell from the crankcase and assess the damage to the cases. The PO has let me know who put the bearings in and advised me to contact them for advice; that seems like a prudent step before I go too much further. rt |

Tim, if I would've known that 2 years ago, I'd be riding 115 HP Sportster right now instead of a Buell. |

Road_thing: If you count the number of needle rollers in one of the cam bearings that did not come apart for a number count ... Get a STRONG SMALL MAGNET and can fish out of the bottom end the same number, you win and you will get other fine metal ... Other wise it is split the case'es time !!! FLUSH THE OIL TANK !!! The way the oil system works is the oil(and metal there in) goes through the return side of the oil pump to the oil tank(usually settles to the bottom of the oil tank), oil then gravity feeds(with some of the metal) to the feed side of the oil pump, and to the oil filter ... That is why "i" put a oil filter in the return side of the return line to the oil tank which does two things ... 1) Keeps my oil tank clean !!! 2) Cuts oil pump drag by 50 percent because any metal only pass'es through the oil pump only once !!! |

Lafayette: Which set of rotors in the oil pump is feed and which is return? I saw some damage to the wide rotors in the pump, but the thinner ones looked OK. That's probably telling me where the needles came from, right? rt |

...and just a reminder 'bout those "cold drinks"; if you want alcohol, bring it with you or pick some up on the way. Real County is a "dry" county! HellBuelly J P.S. If you need me to tote something out there from Austin for you (like a 6-pack or two), let me know a.s.a.p. and I'll be happy to do so (as long as you're still PAYING for it)! |

Our plan is to leave home Wednesday morning and take an easy day going through Kansas and Oklahoma and spending the night near the OK/TX border. Then finishing the ride to Leakey on Thursday rolling in sometime that evening. This of course is all dependent on having the bike ready by then. |

I plan to be there early Friday afternoon. I'll be bringing a cooler or two of the Golden Nectar of the Gods. And a purple S1 on a trailer. Also a toolbox, an air tank, and okra. Lots of okra. rt ps--I've got a cabin reserved, and it looks like it's just me in it, so if anybody needs a place to bunk, you're covered. |

Dudes, Im riding up from Austin on Saturday so if someone has space in a cabin let me know, I can help you out with costs. I snore like a freight train, fart like a Buell backfiring with a bad ECM, and might whizz in your helmet late at night...but otherwise Im an OK guy. Just ask Jay. Beware of DPS in Leakey, go slow through and around town. At our last Thrills in Hills, the DPS followed us into Camp Live Oak, just to check all our papers, write a couple tickets, and send a message. It was pure harrassment because one of us was "following too close." Watch out if the area is swarming with HDs, some of them dont agree with the tight, decreasing radius turns around there... Ahh, this is more like it: Here is a report on HellBuellies Thrills in Hills 2009, at Camp Live Oak: http://ridedualsport.com/forum/index.php?topic=518 .0 Look forward to seeing some tuber iron! Road_thing: The WIDE GEAR ROTORS are the return(scavenge) to oil tank ... Early on, SPORTSTER engines had a screen to stop large broken metal parts from getting into the oil pump return(scanege) gears, "BUT" some engineer(or some committee) did not see keeping this very basic oil pump protector and it was left out of later SPORTSTER engines ??? So you got to experience some real world "STUPID" !!! |

Phelan: Will be in Houston, "TEXAS" in DECEMBER to visit the GRANDKIDS and will bring my 1997 S3T ... Looked your city up on the "BIG TEXAS" map ... Could have met you half way for COFFEE and BUELLschitte, "BUT" you are just toooooo far away !!!! For those in Houston, want a MEET/GREET BUELL TUBE FRAME SEMINAR for PREVENTIVE MAINTANCE(make it last a 100K trouble free miles) ??? If my time frames permit, it could be made to happen ... |

my wife was wondering about meals, do we have any planned? Last I heard was buellerthanyou was talking about it Oh yeahhhhh! We'll be having barbecue one evening (probably Saturday; I'm still not sure if it'll be catered or if "yours truly" gets to do the honors!) and either burgers or spaghetti on Friday eve. Plus a portobello mushroom or two and, of course, fried okra! Breakfast will be eggs (possibly migas), bacon, biscuits, cereals, fresh fruits, coffee, juice and cinnamon rolls in various combinations on Saturday and Sunday mornings. You're on your own for lunches and Monday morning, if you're staying 'til then. I'll also have some soft drinks (mixers?), bottled water and iced tea to drink. I think I can do all this for around $20 per person, so that's what I'm asking for. On another note, I'm gonna try to get some t-shirts made in time as well (can you say "time crunch"?) if there is interest. Should be around $10-$12 per person for a shirt. If you want one, post up your size so I can get a count for the printer. What's it gonna look like, you ask? It'll be a surprise! HellBuelly J |
