I left it running in my driveway on a slight downhill incline, as I walked away to get my helmet, I heard a crash, The darn thing fell over. Either I didn't have the kickstand forward enough or it gave way. Is it my mistake or do I need to fix something? The left front turn signal was broke. I taped it together. No parts at the Harley shop. Where do I get another one? The handguard popped back on but there are scratches in the frame puck and left bag. Can I get the scratches out or any ideas? | ||

Leaving the bike on a down hill slope in neutral is a no no, but I guess you already know that now. I'm sure someone will let you know the part numbers you need. I have a taped front turn signal and scuffed frame pucks. I've got replacements but haven't installed them yet. I wondered myself if you could somehow warm up the scuffed area on the puck and smooth it out, doesn't really bother me though. | ||

Always leave the bike pointed UPhill if you're warming it up. You should be able to get whichever pieces of the turn signal you need from one of our sponsors - it's a few pieces: the black housing, the smoked outer lens, the orange inner lens, and the reflector. Although even a "whole" signal is only like $12. American Sport Bike can fix you up. Al can also probably get you a puck. | ||

Never park down hill for any reason, even if it is not running. Shiit happens though. If you MUST park on a down hill. Shut it down, put it in first gear, and let it roll forward till the gears stop it. Then lean in over on the stand. Just remember it's in gear when you go to start it back up. | ||

Uly has a tendency to shake when idling, that vibration sometimes causes it to rock itself off of the kickstand when faced slightly downhill, even when it the kicstand is properly in place. I think most of us have learned that within the first week or so of owning the bike. Me, i learned the first day... You will become a pro at analyzing street angles in your head while approaching a parking spot. Enjoy! Oh, and leave the scars, its personality  | ||

I've had several motorcycles including 4 Harleys. This is the first time one has ever shook itself off the side stand. It was only a very slight downhill and I've been doing the same thing for years with at least 6 other bikes. I'll have to keep in mind not to turn my back on this bike when it's running. Yeah, I might just leave the scratches on it. It'll make the chopper guys feel more wussy. One reason I got the Uly is that is light enough to pick up. Once an Electraglide fell off a jack and I had to use a winch to get it up and it cost a bundle to to fix the paint and chrome. I feel better that it was my bad and the bike is ok. Sneaky but ok. | ||

hahah, i remember laying down an 800lb'er once and the shear adrenaline from embarrasment for having slid it into a parked car was enough for me to pick it back up. I agree with the Uly, its MUCH easier to get it back up. Enjoy, its an amazing bike. The best ever. | ||

Before I hit 50 I could do it, but after I had a bad accident with a Goldwing ( a real bad bike-bad speed wobbles) I can no longer pick up a full dress bike. | ||

Any of our Buells tend to propel themselves forward when they are on their sidestands idling. Someday if I am really bored, maybe I'll line them up, start 'em up and see which one is first to cross the finish line at the end of the drive way  ! My bets are on the blast! | ||

I dropped mine for the first time this past Thursday, Kickstand folded-up when I got off. I must of pushed the bike forward with the stand down while I was dismounting. No real damage thanks to the frame pads and soft-sided dowco luggage. Been riding for 21 years, it's the second time I dropped one. Instant humble. | ||

On my scratched puck, I just taped it off and repainted it with flat black. Actually it looks pretty good. I have a left turn signal that really wiggles at idle. It wasn't broken bad enough to replace. | ||

Check that clutch lever...bet it has a little curl at the end now...that the brake lever does not have. Ask me how I know? The rule I hear on this board is to sit on it and let it warm up. Of course I will rarely do that...but it will never be downhill again! | ||

With my 06, I have found that once the stand is deployed, I roll the bike back just a tad and the stand extends forward further. If I just leave it down without moving the bike back a tad, it is not fully extended.I also take my bikes when I get them into the front yard, take out the beach blanket and lay the bike on it. then using the methode that some women demonstrates at MC shows I practice picking it up. I tried to get my wife to do that with her Wee Strom, but she said that she rode with me so I could do the gentlemanly thing and pick up her bike for her. folks didn't know what to thnk when I laid down my 01 bright yellow goldwing in the front yard. | ||

Why don't bikes have a "parking brake"? Maybe something on the front brake lever that would lock it on. | ||

Our staging (parking) area is on a slight incline at our schools training range so we have a minor rolling issue with the automatic training trikes which have no parking brake. There's a couple "low tech" solutions for parking brakes: 1. Piece of double sided velcro we stick around the rear hand brake when parked or 2. a scrunchie (fabric covered rubber band that people use for pony tails) used in same way. Both are cheap, and effective as parking brakes. | ||

My "safety" for the Uly stand is to put it down with my left foot, leave my foot on the little tab on the stand, and dismount standing on the tab. Locks it in place, every time Another option I've seen is a small bungee, hooked to the tab of the stand and to something on the front wheel (one of the spokes). Helps keep forward pressure on the stand. | ||

Yup, at least mine will. I haven't had mine vibrate off stand during warm up, but I was privvy to the problem early on by reading here. I did catch it early once, would've went down. I've also adopted the procedure mentioned by someone above, deploy side stand, lean bike over and roll it back about 2". The stand definitely stops short when just "kicked" out, you need to settle it into full deployment. | ||

... my Uly pinned me to the ground recently and tried to make love to me. I stopped on a pretty steep hill, to take a photo - side stand down - checked it - seemed OK, bike wasn't running) hopped off & bike started rolling forwards I grabbed it but stumbled & it fell on me pinning against a wire fence. Wasn't easy getting up. PO There is a lot to be said for embarrasment-adrenalin ! | ||

Mine too. On level ground, but without rocking it back on the stand. Just a manly scar on the tank pad and a scuff on the bar end. |
