H-D is still in trouble and says they need to cut local manufacturing costs here in Wisconsin. Here is the link to the story from the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel: http://www.jsonline.com/business/92418964.html |

H-D desperately needs to reduce costs and really should have been looking at this years ago. The cost to build one of these bikes is really much too high. Unfortunately the line guys are gonna bear the brunt of it and this could have been avoided (at least of large part of it) IF the company had focused on designing, not only the bike but the production line, to maximize productivity. All those years of high profits masked this need so it was not address. |

Sounds like they need an annoying but bright and really innovative independent division experienced in diverse sourcing and supplier management, rethinking everything from design through production and distribution. And they had one of the best in the business... right up until they killed them to "save money". |

Ya it is. Mr. Dumass (Wendall) is at it again. Go Wendell! Keep on driving that sucker into the ground. |

The amazing thing about the current crop of less than experienced HD execs is that they are such communicators . . . stockholder, employee or Wall Street analyst . . you've got to be shaking your head and wondering if "Keith's Kook's" really thought that veiled "we'll leave Wisconsin" threats are a way to motivate employees and improve the product. The HD Board of Directors screwed up. There are 3 or 4 folks that could have set Harley-Davidson on a new and viable path that would have showcased and celebrated their heritage without making fools of them. I can also think of two people I would have appointed to the board that I don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with but who have the mental fire power to make Harley-Davidson what it once was. The current board has been made fools of by Wandell, Olin and two others. Thankfully, at least one left. |
