Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but my bike is dead again. Sat for a few weeks. charged the batt up, it's at 12.67V now not hook to bike. What is the voltage running can't find that in my service manual. trying to figure out if I have a weak battery. seems to drop alot when I turn the key on. will record voltage when I hook it all back up |

12.7 volts open circuit(battery off the bike) is 100% charge, 12.6 volts is 75% charge. |

13.2 on should be a minimum? Right? EZ |

The curves may vary... but 12.7 with the motor and ignition off is fully charged ad DKtechguy indicates. When the motor starts up, you should see a lot more then that, at least 13.2, and maybe as high as 14 something. |

Just for reference, my '08 R runs between 13.7 and 14.2 always. |

the voltage that you measure with the battery off the bike is 12.7 if the battery is fully charged. The voltage that you read on the ic with the bike on will be higher, how much higher depends on the rpms, as the alt. pulls more power @ higher rpms. |

The voltage on my CR varies from 13.4 to 14.2 while on the road. Haven't had problems yet (where's some wood to knock on...!). And no, I'm not taking any chances with the harness recall. All is good now, I want it to stay that way. Mike |

1 mike- no new harness for you? Since i "upgraded" mine I occasionally get a IC LCD of "SYSTEM VOLTAGE" that goes away with a restart. |

Since upgrade and new stator. Mine never gets in the 12's. Knock on Wood for me. |

With new harness mines around 13.0 or higher, and with the Erik Buell Racing ECM with lower idle. No CEL or problems for me, knock on wood. |

Saw mine get below 12V today on the way into work. (at idle) Still holds up to 14V at cruising speed. Hope I can make it back home, then I'll call the dealer. I have the new harness/flash, never had a problem before now. |

Anything below 12 I would worry. When my stator blew up it was at 11.6 when I recall. Engine light and battery light with p0562 error code which is system voltage. (Message edited by freezerburn840 on April 29, 2010) |

Have it on a battery tender here at work, only a ~15 minute ride home. Only had the bike about 2 weeks since the harness was put in, and I hadn't had any problems. |

According to the service Manual (page 1-37) 12.7 100% 12.6 75% 12.3 50% 12.0 25% 11.8 stone freaking dead |

How many miles do you have on the bike Scrajtp? How many miles did you put on the bike after install? Me I have 7,500 miles currently. I have put 3,500 miles since updates. |

Only ~2500 miles. Less than 500 were after the harness. |

I had the harness upgrade done two weeks ago. Bike sat for 4 days a couple with <35 degs. This morning the battery was dead and couldn't turn over the engine. Needs some investigating.... (Message edited by unique_id on April 29, 2010) |

i called my dealer to have them get me a upgrade harness and was told they would have to wait for the harness to show up on it's own that HD would send them to the dealer and that they couldn't order any that they had to wait for their harness's to show up . Well that was all good and dandy But I told them several weeks ago I needed the upgrade and that my charging system was acting weird. I road home Wednesday with no output from the charging system ,started out at 12.7 volts and by the time i got home it was down to 8.5 volts the cluster shut down and the bike died as i came down the street to my house and i coasted into the driveway.I called the dealer and said it died and was told bring it in or they could come pick it up for 25.00 each way, i said i don't think so..so i charged the battery full and disconnected the headlite and rode it to the dealer battery was dowm to 11.3 when i got there, both engine and battery lite were on and was told the harness would fix everything by the service writer and i said yea' right it would...not..i just hope it is fixed before homecoming..... |

Mine is at the dealer now. Anybody know the backorder time on the stator? |

I had the charging harness/software upgrade a few weeks ago (never any problems before) now the voltage pulls down to 11.8 when bike is warm and at idle. I took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong...but charged my battery. On the way home it did the same thing. I wish I had not had the upgrade done! |

So what i have been reading above seems the sub-harness change out seems negative. I have apt Sat for change out. Not sure I want to take the CR in now ? C |

Maximum...I have the same issue...Idle, hot temp and fans running.. Voltage drop down to 11.8 V ...The bike hasn't died on me yet... |

Got the sub-harness installed today. Voltage numbers seem to be the same as before. 13.5 - 14.1 Also got the ECM Flash. CR runs much smoother at lower RPMs. C |

I never gave mine the chance to fall further than 11.9V, so it may have stopped at 11.8 as well. The dealer has it, they think it may be the voltage regulator, but want to talk to Buell tech on Monday. |

Picking up the bike today. The dealer says the harness was installed incorrectly causing the voltage to drop. Hopefully this corrects any issues. |

Let us know...because mine still does the same thing after getting it back from the dealer (only when hot and at idle). |

I don't recall my numbers pre harness, but today I rode on my post harness install 09, according to the dash it was 14.0, +/- .1 or .2 |

Do you all have aux voltage meters installed or was I asleep during the part of class where you can read it on the cluster while you ride ? Lol If you installed an aftermarket meter , what did you use ? |

Seems to have fixed it. My voltage only dropped when the fans were on at idle as well. Now at idle with the fans on it will hit 13.5V and then start charging back up. I didn't ask exact details, but apparently a few pins were incorrectly installed with the new harness. Hopefully it stays fixed, and I don't have more charging issues in a couple weeks. |
