Hey All, Looking at a new Ully this weekend. If I decide to buy it, should I ride it the 300 miles home, or truck/trailer it. I am concerned about putting the break in miles on it running mostly steady and higher speeds. BTW, what RPM does it turn at 75 mph? |

Vary your engine speeds with the transmission. 4000 rpm in fifth gives me a GPS reading of 77 mph. (Message edited by rwven on April 28, 2010) |

No problem with riding it home, just avoid 300 miles of slab. Pick a route that takes you on less-traveled backroads so you can run it up and down through the gears within the recommended RPM limits. The owner's manuals are available on line so you can see what those are. On the outside chance it's a new left-over 06, note that the RPM limits in the 2006 manual were VERY conservative, apparently too conservative as they were upped in 2007. I'd suggest on following the 2007 recommendations even if it is a 2006 bike. |

I would try to stay off the interstate, but the bummer is any route home is still miles & miles of flat & straight with 65 mph limits. |

Where you getting it, and where you going to? Perhaps a detour through Brazil might be needed |

ogre, bought the bike friday rode it from tampa to greenville sc the next. first 100, took it easy up 301 and after that, all bets were off. that was on the 08xt and have almost 6k to date with out one issue except the windscreens suck on them so you'll be better off taking it off and getting a much taller one to use on the bike. |

Congrats on considering one of the best bikes ever made. +1 on ride it, ride it! Vary the speeds, it'll be fine. Bikes are not happy on a trailer, 'specially a Uly. . B. |

Ride it and enjoy it. Don't worry too much about the break-in period. The engine/transmission is pretty bulletproof. |

I'll never buy another bike that is too local I can't fly/ride. It's a perfect opportunity for a shake down cruise. Bought my 09XP last fall and turned the 1100 mile ride home into a 1800 mile cruise over 5 days. There's no better way to get to know a new motorcycle. Do the motoman tune, change the oil on the side of the road after 50 miles and have fun! |

Ride. Vary your speed, your throttle position (gas it, coast, gas it, coast), and go up/down through the gears (5/4/5/4/3/4/5) when you can. Just don't ride it like you're on "cruise control" and you'll be fine. Congrats! |

Well, its home. I will say doing the break in on the trip home was a pain and made for a long trip.

Just out of curiosity, I looked on craigslist last night to see if I could find another 2010 XT. Oh, I found one in Austin, TX with 1500 miles. Asking price? $14,500!!! |

Hughlysses, not sure who in Austin that is, but they certainly have added a few things to it, just to turn around and sell it (they haven't been riding it much). Then again, I took the CR out yesterday and because it's a third bike for me, only has 1600 miles on it. |

$14,500? Seems odd that they would use Brazillian currency in TX..... (did the math, seems to come closest) |

Either Brazillian currency or he paid a LOT for the belt, shop manuals, and bar bag. Here's the ad if anyone's interested: http://austin.craigslist.org/mcy/1702685657.html Ogre_fl- I hope you got a better deal than that! |

Heck, I'll sell you mine for $4000 less than that one. Would you do an even swap for a 2007 X and a 2009 1125CR? BTW just how many 2010 XT's are there in the US? Good question. There can't be many. <100? |

Ogre, First way to go all the way around. Second, you saying you got a 10XT for less than 10K? Good for you, that's great. It's nice to see you got a nice deal on a fantastic bike. And sure, the ride home must have been horrible... |

Rode mine home (10 miles) in the rain and then did 1500 miles over the next four (mostly in the rain). First oil change when I got back. No real highway miles except the length of the Taconic on days one and four... no problems. |

The ride was not really horrible. However I was probably overly anal about not holding a steady speed. I really had to fight myself from just slipping into a groove and cruising like I am used to doing thru those long straight boring sections that made up most of the trip. Sorry Hugh, no trades, but I seriously would sell it if someone was really interested. I hope I change how I feel as get to ride it without the break in limitations, but right now I just dont know if it is the right bike for me. |

Give it time! The bike gets better and better. As it breaks in everything seems to get better. From the MPG to the power. It takes time, 5000 or more sometimes, before it all just "comes" to you. I was a little disappointed my first 1000-2000, but now at 8000 I love it more than the day I got it. 09XT BTW. If you do decide to sell it, sounds like you'll make out alright. Got it for a good price, won't get hosed. |
