Okay, buying a house and need to play with the finances a bit. I've got both a 2000 M2 and a 1995 S2. I really really really like the M2 a lot. I also like the S2 a lot. Coin flipping back and forth, and watching the used Buell market and seeing what the move-it price point is on some Buell, and seeings as how I won't part with the S2 at the current market price, and seeings as how I won't part with the M2 at the current market price, I'm thinking of parting out the M2. So, this is a call for orders/requests of what some of you might be interested in, and what price you'd be willing to pay. I just changed my profile to use the larger e-mail account, which gets SPAM as well so use a reasonable subject line so I don't bit-bucket your message. I will also need to accumulate a certain level of funds before any actual disassembly is started, which means someone will have to pony up for the engine so I can clear the title from the lein holder before dismantling the bike. Basically someone will have to trust me a bit, but I'm basically a trustworthy guy so it shouldn't be a big problem for the most part. Send me your shopping list, and be ready to send the funds with clear shipping instructions and an address. I'll keep a log for a week to see how this is looking. If it doesn't look like the deal will fly then I'll do something else and reply to any of you that responded so you can realocate your monies. 2000 Buell M2 Cyclone. Approximately 23,000 miles on the bike. Daily rider ready to go as is, basically if someone wanted it for a fair price I could ride it to Seattle (or elsewhere) without a worry and deliver it intact in person. (Provided I had the time off work and a way to get back home.) **Stock exhaust currently on the bike. **WileyCo stainless exhaust which may go back onto the bike tomorrow to enhance local sales potential. **Buell c/f air filter assembly. **Buell stock breadbox in a box in the garage. **Ventura rack system, short rack, tall rack, one bag, no grab bar. **DC-BRAG USA flag Buell logo overlays on the gas tank. (If the bike gets parted out I'll probably try to keep the gas tank.">) **Black bodywork, good physical condition, a few minor scratches here and there but nothing major based on my definition of "major". **Upgraded/updated Buell under/rear shock. **Stock front forks and original stock springs. The seals are not leaking so the fork assemblies should be in good condition. **Auxialiarry(sp?) lights in front with relay setup behind the flyscreen. **Buell aluminum tach kit. Has key-rubs on the surface, and has two holes drilled/tapped into the leading edge for holding the aux light relay assembly. The holes should not be visible when installed on a different bike. **Brakes and rotors are in used but good condition, there may be a very slight warp/heat-wobble in one. **Wheels are in good condition. **Tires are Dunlop D205's. Front is servicable/usable but shows uneveness. Rear is good with minor center flat. **Rear swingarm was replaced 5,000 miles ago due to the accident I had in Washington. Click my profile for the history. The rear rim was also replaced new at the same time. **Frame feels straight to me, tracks like it always did for me. The repair tech said it felt straight to him when he rode it. If the bike does get parted out, and when it comes time to sell the frame w/title, and once all the components are removed, I can take it down to Hals Performance Shop and have them inspect it for straightness. **Battery is fine. **Immobiliser alarm w/pager system. I'll have to find the pager and charger in a box someplace from my last move. **Seat is in good condition apart from 23,000 miles of my rump riding it. Bike has never been dropped apart from when it was rearended by a Ford Ranger pickup. First fair requests will be honored in turn. No promise to complete the transaction until I have enough funds guaranteed and received to clear the lien. Once I do begin the dismemberment of the bike items will ship promptly. If I find anything during disassembly (bearings, or other unseen items not seeable until disassembled) I'll notify you immediately and see what you want to do about it, basically I'll be fair and reasonable. If I know ya I'll trust ya, if I don't then you'll have to trust me. If you have a question then ask and I'll probably tell you more than you want to know. The more specific your question the more detailed I can be in response. And if this doesn't look like it will work out I'll cancel the offer with a week or two due to time constraints. I also have a refundable/transferrable 7-year warranty on the bike if someone is thinking of getting the bike intact and has any concerns about the mileage. But since I know I can get the unused portion of the warranty refunded at the end of the term (another 3 years) I'll want a grand on the warranty transfer. I also have a few other items available for clean legal transfer if there are any target shooters or hunters in the local area. And I still have the Bugatti kitcar available, which if I got rid of that I might not have to do all this. But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. And if it don't work at least I can say I tried, and will then have to figure something else out. Okay, that is all, carry on with the new XB flame/praise games. If this looks like a go I'll post in the proper classifieds section. ps, if I manage to sell the bike intact locally I'll immediately let everyone know as well. But with the newest XB12's almost available I think that option may have just died. edited by mikej on July 16, 2003 |

It just kills me to hear another perfectly good Buell get parted out. |

Me too, honestly, but such is life at times. Fly down, buy it whole, ride it home. |

Mike, If you really do part it out, keep me in mind for your clutch lever perch and lever. Mine's getting a bit sloppy from wear and under lubrication (oops!) Brad |

Mike, Out of curiosity, how much were you thinking of for the engine? |

Peter, The engines seem to go for between $2,025-$3,000 on E-Bay from the couple I tracked. Not sure what a fair price would be on it. Would also depend on if someone wanted just the core, or short block, or long block, or the starter, or carb and intake, or motor mounts and heim joints, or swingarm mount and swing arm, or the whole bike attached intact. I'd be willing to get it compression and leak-down tested if someone were seriously interested in it. Shipping might be a concern to you, unless you want to pick it up in person. I could probably find transport of it to Bonneville. This engine went for $2900. And this one went for $2025. Just some price points. |

Mike, I know where there's a Sportster for sale, sans engine, over here. So my brain starts ticking..... I'm probably going to be in the market for a new bike in August. Whether I buy/build 2nd hand or buy new or...... has yet to be decided. Just seeing what my options are at the moment. Much like you I guess |

Peter, I've always got my eyes open for project bikes and basket cases, which is why if the M2 does get parted out and I don't sell all the parts I'll just eventually use the leftovers on something down the road later on. Checking email hourly or so, unless I crash the workstation again. I'll post a current parts interest list later without names attached so people know where things stand at this point. I'm about a third of the way to where I need to be to start the disassembly. |

Current parts interest. (Nobody is obligated so far, and I'm not looking to start a bidding war.) I should know within a week if this is a go or not and will contact all interested parties once a decision is reached. I will not need all the parts spoken for, just a set level to be reached. Anyway, here's the interest list so far: (#) = number of people expressing an interest, just so nobody wastes their time in a long line. Rims (2 in line) Rear shock Carb Tail section (1+ in line) All plastic bodywork Clutch lever and mount/clamp c/f air filter assy (3 in line) WileyCo exhaust Swingarm Ventura rack Aux lights First in is first dibs, open to offers, need to raise enough to clear the lien before disassembly, pics can and will be taken and sent out to interested people of specific items once a decision has been made. I'm located just north of Milwaukee Wisconsin just down the street from Suburban Motors in Thiensville if someone local wants to come check out anything specific. |

Things have slowed considerably, not looking good for a tear-down, I'll give it another day or two before deciding what to do. I'll keep everyone who responded informed, thanks for the interest so far. MikeJ. |

Just a followup, today is Sunday, and not enough interest in parts to justify parting out the bike so far. I haven't given probably enough time to really try this, but immediate interest isn't there. So unless someone shows some interest in the engine since that's the biggest ticket item on the bike, it probably won't get parted out. I've put the WileyCo back on this weekend and may try a consignment deal at Suburban Motors if I don't get any nibbles. Oh well. I'll send out e-mails on Monday or Tuesday to those who were interested in the parts so far to let you all know the final decision, but so far it don't look like a go. Sorry. But things may change after the weekend is over, who knows, stuff like this is fluid at times. Gotta go, I'll check email tonight or tomorrow again. MikeJ. |

I feel your pain. I was thinking of doing the same thing to my 99 X1. The used market sucks, and with only 2500 miles on the bike, I don't want to give it away. I could use the frontend off mine, but like you, without getting a decent buck for the motor, it's a wash. Glad I read your post. |

Yep, I think the part-out is out. E-mails will go out today. E-Bay for the parts is probably a good way to go, but that would realistically require pre-disassembling the bike to have all the parts separated and ready to ship as they sell, and I can't do that right now. That way you could also relist unsold items and keep pinging away at them. I don't recall how long it took Ralph to sell off his bike(s) this way, but I believe it was not a one-week quickly-done deal. And since I've got to clear a lien to clear the title I can't in good conscience (sp?) do it piece-meal. Oh well, I enjoy riding it anyway, just have a cash crunch to get through. Maybe I'll just go flip burgers or stuff grocery sacks for a few bills a month instead. "You want fries with that?", or "Paper or Plastic?", that is the question. Decisions, decisions. |

Mike . . .kinda glad you can't seem to part out the bike . . . . I know of at least one HD/Buell shop that hires folks part-time (specially in the summer, when full time folks like to have a vacation) . . . . you may wish to inquire in your area? |

Already have the application, just needed to wait for a few things to settle out. There's also a Yamaha shop near the new digs and a coffee shop and a magazine publisher whom all may be getting haunted by my inquiries. Sort of mixed on the bike, would solve some issues, but would hurt some too. Sort of like pulling out a long splinter from a finger, maybe I'll just leave it in and not bend my finger no more. Emails going out at lunch, can't log in that long until then. |
