I've been using H-D Dot 5 brake fluid for several months as it was free and all I have on hand. It really seems to be lacking. After a track day the front brake fluid smelled and looked cooked (leaving some nasty residue), and in general street use the rear fluid literally boils off in the reservoir (factory rearsets put the reservoir near the rear header...an all aluminum reservoir is used). I've never seen this before and didn't have this problem with the Buell stuff. |

How fresh is it? I've used the H-D stuff before and it's worked well for me but then my setup is all stock. Perhaps there was some sort of contamination like humidity in the container you used? I'd look into adding some kind of heat shield for that rear reservoir to protect not only the fluid but the hose, etc., if it's getting hot enough to boil silicone brake fluid. |

I've tried Motul 600 which has a higher heat rating I believe. Take your wallet with you however. |

It was fresh from a sealed container. I'm going to try re-routing the reservoir for the time being. This setup has been fine for about five years. The only thing that has changed is the brand of brake fluid. I have a several years supply so I'd like to make it work. Thanks for the input. I'll definitely use something different for the track. Russell and EBC look like some decent alternatives, as well. |
