My 2004 I bought with 162 miles on it and I've put 100 on it so far. I'm so sorry I didn't get one long ago--- it's been great! I've been using it to get to work and I couldn't be happier with it.

Even though I'm totally new to riding, I think that the Blast is an excellent everyday bike, it's not so fancy or expensive or fragile that I have to worry about it.

That was the original intended purpose. Leave it stock, ride it to work, only one cylinder to repair when its worn out.
We'll all know how that turned out...........

Now I ride the expensive bike to work and none of my Blasts have seen the street in almost a year.

I still have my daily rider - and continue to have fun on it - 4 days a week on it and the weekends on the CR. Both get an equal amount of mileage - more or less - depending. The Blast is a fun capable bike that can be modified for many different purposes "reliably" - within reason, and sometimes without. Forever, the Blast will be my hobby bike, I hit the back roads on it at least once a week to keep the edges off the rear tire - lol - my bike's will always see the street.

Erik - what bike are you commuting on?

My daily 'commuter'!
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/348 043/348721.jpg}
My Blasts are in various states of disassembly and race prep. The raceBlast broke and time constraints dictated stripping my streetBlast down and prep it to race. I just havent had the time to put a Blast back on the street (God knows I've got the parts LOL) and racing (and other things: () take precedence.
FWIW: We were at Willow this past weekend and sheered a pinion key in practice or you might've seen James in this picture too : ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/158 664/558110.jpg

The highly modified Blast is going through changes, the drum went - a freak breakage, right now enjoying the rebuild process, I keep upgrading parts - lol - makes the process longer, but the expectant result should be well worth it - a long term project.
My daily rider is a high mileage Blast, that I've reasonably modified - meaning it should have a life as long as any stocker, though much more radical in power and handling - comparatively speaking. Right now its dancing better than the CR, but I'm seriously working on that, since the CR was meant to be the long distance dancer/corner carver, so have been tweaking suspension settings, etc.

Well in 08 I was drowning with high gas prices so I found a 06 Blast w/2725 mi and warranty till nov 09, good thing as it had been an edge bike and had some hack work done, like not replacing/relocktighting the rear sprocket bolts at first tire change(it had new rear when bought).
It went back in couple weeks as isolator went out, then about month later as they messed up the front mount install and it broke it.
Then at around 7k plus Iwas installing a new rear tire, this was when I found a missing bolt in rear sprocket, bad wheels bearings, then just before it was to go in for bearings it nearly lost the sprocket and took 2 weeks waiting for rear wheel and new sprocket, then near fall it got another isolator/washer broke.
It has over 17k on it now its due for LOF, new rear tire, another primary adjustment, and drive belt.
Oh yeah last spring it went in and had top end resealed as it had an oil leak. did very little riding last year unfortunately.
Hope to get her plated, insured, serviced and rode more this year, just need more funds,,,,,,.

There is one modification I was thinking about making: is there something for the clutch that will give it a longer friction zone?

I just put the Muller Power Clutch on my Blast now that my wife got here license. It's not a longer friction zone, but sure makes clutch pull a lot easier.

Bought an RE bike at 800, now have 12,000 and no problems, except Das Boot and a primary leak around the clutch cable, part of the RE custom package from being dropped hard on the left side.

I just topped up the tank with 62 mpg. 75 percent of riding in the city. Average 57 to 62 in pure city driving. It's been reliable and fun and fairly easy to work on.

It's stock.

I use mine about 3 times/week to and from work. 35 mile round trip., half is urban riding, other half is freeway. I just got my X1 up and running so the Blast splits time with it when commuting. My wife is currently learning to ride the Blast. I finally got it running again today.

I currently have to Blast torn apart in my dads garage and waiting on parts from American Sport Bike to arrive to finish the mutant motor.

But last year my Blast was my daily driver. You know you ride your bike a lot when you have to drive the car and the car battery is dead.

Twice I have had to use the motorcycle battery to jump the car - from sitting for so long - a Honda Civic SI - I love California weather and roads!

Yup, the Battery Tender is on the car!

"I did notice that the people who have really fancy motorcycles tend to keep them at home."Hmmm, I'm not sure if that was directed at me or just in a general way (or both). I mean, I think my bike is pretty nice and the whitewalls would count as fancy......love my pimpwalls

The big bike is the 'road' bike. Its for the long hauls. After you rebuild a few twins because you wore them out just riding to work, you realize you're just wasting money. Thats where the Blast came in. Much cheaper to run in every respect. Really, needing a "commuter bike' was just justification. I've always wanted a small displacement street bike, but could never spring for an Aermacchi. But when the Blast came out I had to have one.

Well I mean I know numerous people who have so much into their bikes, its hard for them to find a time and place to bring them out! Parking at work-- no, bad weather no! General transportation- no! What I like about the Blast (besides being American) is that its not some princess bike this bike is meant to be used every day.

I ride a bicycle too, a friend has $2000 into his bicycle, but its so damn precious, he can't take it anywhere. i have a Huffy I configured for all weather use, and its ready to go anywhere anytime! if it gets wrecked, $129 for a new one and about $200 for accessories and I'm back on the road. I have the same general feeling about the Blast.

Gearheaderiko: Now I have worked out how to put pic's up on Badweb I am waiting until I have finished the X1 (It's mainly cosmetic stuff now) The Blast is currently wearing POS rattle can plastics as my wife (who has never ridden) is learning to ride on it. Consequently, neither of them justify a picture at this time.
Titusand: I, too, use a bicycle 2-3 times a week for recreational riding with the family. It's a Schwinn mountain bike. 12 years old and worth about $50.00.
Later,
