I use my bike for a lot of short city action and find the pirelli diablo to be extremely bad when cold. Once they heat up they're amazing but it takes time in this climate. I need a tire that has grip in the low 50's from the get go. Are the scorpion syncs a better option or are there an even better one?

I used Metxeler Sportec M3's in the last winter and they were fine in the wet and cold, seemed a bit frisky at high speeds but this cleared with the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa I use in the warmer weather (well what passes for warmer weather here in the UK)

Michelin pilot power 2cts work really well in cool weather. I just pulled my corsas off early because I couldnt take it anymore.

... I just don't ride hard when the pavement is cold. : )

It's not just the tires - cold temps tend to have ice/grit on the roads, at least where I ride.

ditto on the PP 2ct's, warm up like right now and a real confidence building tire.

Second the Road Attack. The warm up time is fast. I'm on my second pair on my SV and there is NO comparison between them and the Corsa 3s on my CR. The Contis will be warm to the touch in very little time, even on a cool day. For a bit less durable but slightly stickier tire the Sport Attack is great.

I've put 600 miles on a set of Pirelli Angel ST tires, so far. They grip great and should last a bit longer than a pure sport type tire.

I always ride "gently" when the tires and/or ambient temp is cold.

In my experience, the more mileage-oriented a tire is, the harder the rubber and the less susceptible it is to losing grip when cold. The regular Diablo (not Corsa, Rosso, etc) is a tire I've used for a long time and I've never had any grip issues with it at any temperature. However, since Pirelli cancelled that line, I've been migrating to the Pilot Power 2CT. I didn't think that the 2CT would be particularly grippy when cold (and since I don't push the tires when cold, I guess I wouldn't really know) so I'm pleasantly surprised to see others mention them as a good cold (or at least quick warming) tire.

Bridgestone BT-016's only broke loose on me once so far, temp was 26 degrees F and there was water/ice on a slick blacktop road. Other than that one time, they've been really good. Over 6000 miles out of the first set, still have a little life left in them but not a lot. I'm guessing the front will possibly last 8-9k miles, maybe more, the rear has maybe 500-1000 left tops although I'll change it either this weekend or early next week sometime.

Very pleased with cold grip on the Michelin Pilo Power 2CT on the front and the harder Power Sport Touring tire on the back. Turn in is better and I have not gotten that flat spot on the front I got with the Bridgestone BT-003RS and Pirelli Corsa III. The Michelins suit my style of riding best.

Yesterday morning the bike fell over when doing a near walking pace u turn. It was 40F outside and i'm not a rookie. I feathered the front brake just a tiny bit and BAM!!. It went scarily quick and like as if i just woke up after a knock out i found myself lying there under the bike. Seriously, i lost all confidence in those Diablos. My Buell mechanic which i respect very much told me just a few weeks ago that he hated test riding 1125 customer bikes during the winter since the tires would take too long to warm up before he could really get to test the bikes after he had worked on them. He said the XB9sx with the Scorpion Syncs were much much better on cold surfaces. So I'm looking to replace the Diablos soon since i have no faith in them any longer.

Which would be grippier during cold days and has anyone been abe to compare any of these 4? Pilot Road 2ct, Scorpion sync, Pirelli Angel ST.

I would like to stay away from the Road Attacks since i just read a review in a danish mag where they did not get a very good review when being run hard.

Had some Metzeler M3s on my X1 and loved them, they warmed up really quick. I have been thinking about trying the new M5s on the 1125, has anyone ran them yet?

Get a Sport Touring tire for cooler operating temps. At lower temps they grip better than SS tires. There are plenty of good choices.

Conti Road Attack,
Mich Pilot Road 2,
Pirelli Angel,
etc.

I know this is a different bike and tire but Metzler as a whole is a great tire. I have ME880 on my Harley and it was nasty with the stock Dunlops, the Metzlers made it a different bike in a good way. I plan on Metzlers when the Pirellis wear out on my 25r.

Pilot Road 2's are real nice but........... it depends on what temp it is, and what sort of modifications. With the TH and their ECM, if I didn't wheelie, I would spin the rear tire. Kinda fun but kinda scary. Dry roads, 60-70deg F it just claws for the clouds!!!!!!!!
