Hi all, I have been busy buying stuff to enhance the riding experience comfort-wise on my 1125r. 1) I got the Night Design Sidetrax II 1" lower pegs. 2) I got the ROX 2" risers which need some mods to install. 3) I got a set of OEM handlebars from American Sport Bike to modify and mount to the ROX risers. 4) I got some thick Gel grips from American Sport Bike 5) I also picked up the Bar End Cruise control kit form American Sport Bike. 6) Lastly I ordered a solo pilot seat from Corbin. I was gonna go with Baldwin but the Corbin seat is lower and much cheaper. I was surprised to see it was only $235 for a leather seat. Anyway, I hope this does the trick. Peter |

Why buy a SPORT SUPER BIKE and then expect to cruise it in comfort? |

Why buy a SPORT SUPER BIKE and then mod the hell out of it for sound and speed? Because not everyone will use it for the same purpose? a few simple mods and it can be a decent sport touring bike, guess i shouldn't use mine to commute, since it is a sport super bike, |

Funny, I have done 600+ mile days on my 1125CR in comfort, only mod being the seat. Oh, and it can get 54mpg (230 miles before the gas light came on). |

Your probably right! But I'm not looking to cruise, I wanna be able to ride the thing for a few hours at a time, through the mountains on twisty roads like I'm used to doing, without having to stop all the time. Right now it's great as long as your going 80 MPH or faster on the highway. That's not what I want to do. Peter |

I guess you can do what you want after all its yours but why not buy a Uly, or a CR instead? You go to the dealer, you sit on the bike, you know the riding position is tight and yet you say to yourself "I cant wait until I can ride it across country" and I just don't get it. |

Actually, I wanted a CR. I couldn't find one. but why is a better seat and handlebar risers such a bad thing on a Super Sport bike. Is it considered taboo? Peter |

Please understand that this is not the first post about how uncomfortable the R is for touring, I guess I just see things in a different light. I can put 500 miles on the bike on any day, I'm 6'2" 235 lbs and it not bother me a bit. Oh SNAP, I did install a Buell comfort seat from my XB. |

I used to have a Uly. Good bike, but it wasn't for me, I rode it too hard, the bike is intended for old people. Hence I replaced it with an XB Lightning, and I replaced that with a CR. When I demoed the CR last year, I knew it was the bike for me, and I actually did think about how comfortable it would be on the highway. Turns out, once you replace the stock seat, it is more comfortable than a Uly!

It isn't taboo. Everyone has different needs. Personally I want to put lower bars on and a slightly taller windscreen so I can tuck in better, but some people go the other way. One thing that is taboo, taking a classic tube frame Buell, and butchering it up and putting a turbo charger on it |

Well maybe I read it wrong but I thought it was way more than just a seat and risers. To me it just changes the entire bike and what the bike was designed to do. Would you go as far as to put ape hangers floor boards on it? |

I think you'll be very happy with the list you have there. I'm 6'4" and a lean 200lbs, been riding sport bikes since 1989, even the roomiest are cramped for us man-sized men. Personally I wasn't as crazy about the CR, although I like it, but I have a supermotard KTM I've built and want this bike to be a sport bike. I plan on pegs, I'm thinking the Knight Design ones. Then see how it feels, and then maybe the american sportbike bars. Otherwise the R is one of the most comfortable sport bikes I've had. Excluding sport tourers I've had, like CBR1100XX or ZX11, comfy big piggies. Let us know how it goes. Most comfy true sport bike was probaly my R1, and the Buell is about the same, so a few tweeks and I think it'll be great. |

Hey 98s1lightning, " I'm 6'2" 235 lbs and it not bother me a bit." That explains a lot. Your almost 6 inches taller than me which means you have 3 inch longer arms. If you wanna try to imagine what it's like for me, try sitting on the bike and place your hands 3 inches in front of the stock handlebars. Froggy, I hear you. I definitely don't want to butcher this bike. The perfect solution comfort wise would have been to swap the top tripple tree and put one from a CR with the tall handlebar kit. But I thought that's too evasive. Risers can be installed and removed easily and without changing the look of the bike. Peter |

I suppose the Bar End Cruise control kit is a bit much.... But there must be a demand for it if American Sport Bike is selling it. Peter |

Peter Do you still have the stock screen on your R? You may want to try a different profile too, I have a Zero G on mine and think it makes a lot of difference. I have a set of Uly pegs too that I haven't fitted yet but probably will. None of the mods you've listed seem to be at all radical - and even if they were it's your bike so you can do whatever you like to it. I managed to buy a custom seat off eBay and with that the whole bike is much "nicer" to ride than it was with the original ball-busting seat. Are you anticipating using the longer lines and cables (from the CR high bar kit) with the Rox? |

^^ Exactly. All of us are built a little different. Do what ya gotta do to make it comfy. If it's uncomfortable and you end up having to get rid of it, you'll miss out on a hell of a fun bike. I had a difficult time at first but after a few minor mods it's a lot better. Have the Uly pegs on order and plan to do the Corbin seat as well. Peter, post back your thoughts on the Corbin. I am very curious. |

Hey Jules, I picked up a Kick Ass screen when I got the bike. Same profile as stock, just darker. It's really nice. As for the risers, I'm pretty sure they will have to put longer clutch and brake lines. Thanks for the vote of confidence... Peter |

Hogzilla, The Corbin seat should be arriving in a week. As soon as I get it I'll give it a test ride and report back. Peter |

My Corbin feels excellent. It moves the riding position down about 3/4" and forward about 1/2," which for me is just about perfect. 400 mile days are no problem. (Message edited by tpoppa on April 21, 2010) |

I recommend you put heated handgrips on the bike while you've got it all apart. There's very little added labor time, and you'll appreciate them on cold days. You can get that switch pod from American Sportbike. |

Tpoppa, not to get TOO personal, but what's your inseam? I'm 30". Sounds like the Corbin would be a good investment for the vertically challenged. |

I think your ALL missing my point, My point is this. The 1125r was NEVER really meant to be a cruiser, sure it can be modified to be whatever but there are other bikes including but not limited to Buell's that for the most part can fit the criteria you may be looking for. Think of it like this.... I want an STS Cadillac but I cant afford one so I'm going to put whitewall tires and leather seats in my Daewoo. |

The only thing he's done is reconfigure the ergonomics to fit his build. Most people on here have done this to some degree. |

I think your ALL missing my point You're entitled to your opinion...and so is everyone else. Your analogy is actually in reverse to your argument though, what you mean to say is "I bought a STS Cadillac and wan to add alloys from a Daewoo" - that would be (in your view) degrading the quality of the STS... Personally i have never owned a stock bike, can't seem to bring myself to have one that's the same as every other bike in the dealership so mods are the way to go. No bike (including Buells) is perfect - some come pretty close, but they are all "compromised" somehow, be it emissions, budget or to fit a "universal human shape" that does not really exist. Lower pegs, raised bars, taller screens, reprofiled seats, heated grips etc etc are absolutely fine if that's what the owner wants/needs to enhance his/her enjoyment of the bike they paid their money for. Adapting the bike to make it a better fit for you is only natural. (Message edited by jules on April 21, 2010) |

How about nobody is missing your point, but your point is in fact narrow minded and is therefore ignored? Perhaps you've heard of the motorcycle category called "cruiser" and realize that it is in fact quite different from "sport-tourer". The modifications he is making do not make it a "cruiser" in any sense. Not everyone can fold their body up like a pretzel for hours at a time without permanent damage, but still want a particular motorcycle. Sooooo.....they change little things to make it work for their needs. You should think a little more before passing judgement. |

Your right, but mods are one thing while changing the bikes character is another. Perhaps I should have said it like this......" I love my Corvette but I think it rides too stiff so I'm putting whitwall tires on it for a softer ride, if that dosnt work I will remove the driver seat and replace it with a COUCH! " |

Hey 98S1, Your obviously not a purist, so what's the deal? What do you find offensive about trying to get a little more comfortable on a sport bike? I didn't hear anyone talking about putting ape hangers, floor boards, or white wall tires. I think we all got the message, you think that if it's a super sport bike, it wasn't designed to be comfortable and we shouldn't have bought it. You remind me of the guys that ride HOGS with ape hangers and floor boards and rag on the guys that put sport fairings on their cruisers.... Sorry man, but give us a break here.... Peter |

Again, there are other bikes that would suit him better in my opinion, MY OPINION! I mod all my bikes and thats my choice but I dont get trying to swap a SUPER BIKE into a SPORT CRUISER when other bikes are there for the taking. |

Look, I'm not bashing you or the others for the want to make mods to make the bike fit you better but when it consists of all the mods you spoke of I think you just got the wrong bike and now your trying adjust it. Those mods WILL change how the bike acts, reacts and performs and you still wont be happy. All the money you spend will only make you wish you had a CR. |
