Just thought some of you might appreciate an update on a potential project. Spin Tech Mini Muffler #M2112 is about the exact same size as the HMF muffler. Unfortunately, it weighs about 1.5-2lbs heavier than the muffler itself as well. At least, if I decide to keep it, I'll never have to re-pack or worry about it blowing up.  Internals of the muffler are trick. Inlet:  Outlet:  Here's a test fit on the bike:  I tried my best at clamping the muffler down; the 16ga steel is friggin' beastly! At idle, the bike sounds almost the same as with the HMF. The exhaust outlet sure feels like its pushing the same amount of air the HMF was. Raising the rpms, it sounds like the muffler might be better at quieting the exhaust the greater the exhaust flows. (Which is what Spin Tech claims will happen). I didn't run it for long, but I liked the sound it made. Hard to describe. I'll have to get a video comparison back to back to see if my experience is just a placebo effect. Before I finalize the project, I want to see if the engineering dept. at Texas A&M has a flow bench, or maybe head down to Houston to see if I can get it done there. I'm interested in knowing if the advertisements are true. I'll be very busy the next few weeks, but I'll try to keep you updated as progress is made. | ||

Interesting. I will eventually put twin Supertrapp mufflers on my 1125 but I had looked at the Spintech for my XB12S. No decision yet. Mike | ||

that's how spintechs sound torq. I have two sportsman's after a supercharged SBC. good rumble at idle quite on free rev loud under loud. they sound mean and unique i will put one under my bike when ron gets time to make it up for me. Flesh the case of the muffler is another unique aspect of a spintech. I love it. My bike is a cafe racer not a trailer queen... Keep us posted. Videos please!! | ||

I agree, it looks fugly. If I like it, I'll powdercoat it black and maybe fab a cone piece similar to the HMF end cap to smooth out the exit, turn down the exhaust tip some. I imagine it won't look too much different than the HMF, which IMO isn't that great looking anyway. The HMF main tube under the engine leaves only about 1/2" topside clearance before it hits the motor. The inlet tube would have to be literally at the top of the muffler for me to use the HMF tube cut short, stuffing the muffler underneath. I have talked to Ron at Spin Tech about building me a Pro Street muffler that would work with that in mind. I could do it, but for now, I've gotten these parts pretty cheap and I'm seeing what I can do with them. Bottom line is function trumps form in my book. If it performs well and is quieter than the HMF, on top of that: I'd never have to re-pack it... I'd probably keep it. ... I think its funny though. There's tons of people who think the 1125R is fugly. How bad does something have to look to get the 1125R riders to think it's awful? | ||

Cut the mid-pipe and rotate the Spintech 90 degrees. Should tuck in nicely. Like that, it looks like a mini-dumpster on the side of the bike. Quite possibly the ugliest exhaust yet. My2¢ Z | ||

How bad does something have to look to get the 1125R riders to think it's awful? I think you just found out  How about a belly pan? I'm with you on the form over function part. However, the 1125r functions beautifully ergo.... I am with you on the idea of trick baffles trumping the typical perf core and packing. Maybe a different collector, something custom fabricated, could position the Spintech in a more aesthetically pleasing position. Sounds like grafting an HMF outlet on the back would be a lot of work, maybe just a turn out or slash cut would be fine. It's a neat project you have going on. Looking forward to a sound clip. | ||

Kevin(Torquaholic), while considering a few different mufflers for my custom built system I looked at the Spin Tech but when researching them, both on their own website and others I found out they build considerable heat within the muffler case by their very design. I also like function over form but I did not want any additional heat generated under my full lowers where my muffler resides, (under the engine). After some good seat time please let us know honestly if you experience much heat from the muffler case. Also like Zac said I think it would fit under the engine as he stated. I might reconsider if the heat is tolerable. Thanks for a great post and some nice work. Bob | ||

Regurgitative reactions aside, it looks like that muffler may pose a ground clearance issue under steep lean angles. | ||

I agree Dave, but it could work as we suggested; flat, under the engine right in the middle. Stocker sets about 3 1/2" below the engine at its lowest point with no problems. Bob | ||

Torq - Just cut the inlet/outlet off, plug the holes (weld on patches) and put in-outlets where they fit the best according to the header and the engine location. Mike | ||
