Hey guys,

I've had this bike on the sidelines for over 3 years and I am just getting ready to ride it again this summer. Before I parked it there was a shimmy in the steering during breaking. I took it out for a spin around the parking lot and that shimmy has become a violent shake. I had it in the shop for a bout six months last year and they said that my steering head bearings were fine. The only thing I can think of is the motor mount. Should there be any play in it at all. When I have the bike parked on the stand and pull on the handle bars that rubber bushing/mount moves/rotates freely around in the neck of the metal bracket it's housed in. Should it have that much play? Any help would be appreciated.

So I have this straight if you let the bike engine brake and slow down it's fine and if you just for testing purposes brake with the rear brake it's fine as well.As long as the fork tubes are not bent the only thing I got
Wheel Bearings? or perhaps a bad rotor or bent rim or simple balancing is all I can come up with

Of course it is very difficult to analyze a problem long distance, but here are a few things you might check.

1. Swing arm bearings: the swing arm connects to the engine. These bearings are out of sight, out of mind, but if defective, cause problems similar to loose head stem bearings.

2.The front motor mount is prone to failure.
Ordinarily there should be a quarter inch space between the aluminum casting and the attachment bolt. If not, the rubber has failed. However, this does not by itself cause the problem you describe. It is a bit hard to understand the problem from your description, but there should be no play by moving the bars.

3. You might want to check the links that connect the engine to the frame as well.

4. Bad tires can cause shake, but not usually at parking lot speeds.

Let us know what you find.

ok Guys thanks for the helpful info.

Let me see if I can be a little clearer. Only when the front brakes are applied do I feel a violent shake. I have new Corsa III tires on the bike. There is a lot of wiggle room in the motor mount housing. This is the brace that connects to the front of the engine with the little rubber part thing in the middle, right? If so that rubber piece in there looks to be corroded. They checked the bearings for the steering head and front wheels at the dealer and found them to be fine. Also when I rev the engine the front tire shakes very fast for split second at the end of the rev.

then the problem should not be in the engine mount it may compound a problem but I don't think the problem lies there.

My advice is pull the rotor have it resurfaced or cut change your brake fluid and have your tire spun balanced if possible while its apart also check the wheel bearings. The problem should be in the brake area.

Ok Should there be any play whatsoever in the steering head bearing? I can see it moving back and forth during braking. I can feel it rattling against the handlebar. Does that change anything?
