Most of the aftermarket batteries are about the same price, and tend to have weaker specs, then tend to fail faster. The HD battery is really good, plus made in the USA. You always could go for the EBR battery. |

for me at least i found one that fit the hole buuuuut it had standard terminals not the harley specific ones so it was a real pita to install and left me wondering i went back with a harley unit although now i have a massive corrosion problem on the positive cable.... |

Put vaseline on the terminals and make sure the screws are good and tight |

That Harley battery weighs 12 pounds and is mounted high in the tail. My battery weighs 2 pounds and never needs a charge. |

Mine is a Speedcell (from the originator Josh Kaufman). But I would also consider the new EBR unit that came out 2 weeks after I bought mine. |

I always replace my MC batteries with Odyssey, YUASA or DEKA, all made in USA. I always get at least 5 years service from these. I still have the stock battery in my 1125. No Odyssey available YUASA YTX14LBS $60.95 - 99.95 DEKA ETX14 $51.95 - 70.95 |

Captain, when you hold the stock 12 pound battery in one hand, and a two pound replacement battery in the other, the choice seems like a no brainer. But, for sure there's a big cost difference. Depends on your priorities. |

I agree for the track there is probably nothing better than the Li, but on the street, it's not cost effective. Yes I realize I am a cheap bastard! Regards, CaptainKGB |

The 2lb battery from Speedcell doesn't cost that much more than the stock battery, plus its superior in every way. The reduced weight will help improve your fuel economy and extend your tire life. You can then use the extra storage space to wire in more accessories. |

Would a li battery be as reliable for normal use as an acid battery? Does it have the same amount of "juice"? |

The recommended 8 cell version is $230. Hardly "not much more" but still not a bad option if you have the $. |

Li batteries are more reliable than lead acid. I got the larger li battery because we ride on the track 12 months a year. Some mornings are pretty cold, even in southern New Mexico. Josh Kaufman, maker of the Speedcell told me that if I run my bike once a month it will never need a charge. |

It is so cool to debate over which MC battery works BETTER, I can remember when I used to buy MC batteries and six months later be kick starting again. There are some things not so good about the good ole days! I might try a speedcell in the future looks intriguing. Regards, CaptainKGB |

Captain, I see you are in AZ. Josh sponsors some of the bikes out of Evan Steel Performance in Tucson. I know Evan is a dealer. But if you were to time it right you could get Josh to not only install the battery and maybe make a wiring harness for it. BTW Josh lives in Las Cruces |

FYI: The recommended SpeedCell battery is 12cell (6.9Amp), NOT 8cell (aks SBK), for Buell XB or 1125. I confirmed this with Josh at SpeedCell. I would not recommend 8 cell version of SpeedCell in any Bell XB or 1125 for street use. These batteries charge really quickly, but also drain equally quickly. When you do many stops where you shut your engine off, the FAN will drain the battery to the point that starting will become difficult. I had to remove a 8 cell version off my XB. Works great on my RC51 though. (Message edited by dcmortalcoil on April 19, 2010) |

I got a new one for free from the dealer when they did my harness update. But I think I just got lucky on that |
