As many of you know, my bro wrecked on palomar, and i am trying to fix up the bike, i started the install of the high bars today, the fluid in the brake master cylinder looked nice and clear like it should, but when i drained the fluid in the clutch master cylinder it was black and had dirt in it. when the bike wrecked it rolled and the cap on the master cylinder got messed up, it bent the screws and dirt got into the master cylinder, my question is, is my clutch master cylinder ok to use, or should i get a new one?

these are pics of the fluid that came out of the clutch, bike has less then 2k miles on it. I the clutch fluid turns black quick, but the black pieces/dirt is what worries me.

Clean it out, inspect it, see if it still seals and holds fluid fine. If yes, the great! If not, you probably need to replace it.

You can buy replacement seals, which would save you some $$ as opposed to buying a new master cylinder. If the dirt is severe (can't see pictures from this computer), just make sure to inspect the bore for any scratching and gouges. If you aren't leaking, you are probably fine as far as that goes, but it's good practice to check.

Brakes are nothing to mess with, so make sure you do your homework on this while you're putting things back together.

That looks mainly cosmetic, if you want to save some money then just grind & polish the lid and refill it. Otherwise buy one off eBay or an OEM lid.

Check to make sure it works fine and does not leak but a rebuild kit (new piston, seal and dustcap) is cheap enough anyway should you need it.

Blow it through with an air line if you have one handy..

I've got an OEM MC take off from my track bike I'll sell you at a good price if you decide you need a new MC. It's used, but 100% mechanically.

Also, for $300, you can upgrade to a Brembo from Grand Stand Designs. It's a way better part.
