Not a muffler on 21 though thats were I draw the line. The uninsured illegals really suck too or the 1 zillion dumptrucks on 80 dropping bluestone like they are fargin hansel and gretel. The number 1 hated site seems to be rampant across the country MOMS in SUV's yakking on the cell phone, they have offially replaced old Q tip's going 35 on rouute 80 |

I still get the chills when I think "what if". A tuba?? That could cause some carnage too. As far as the Q tips go, they're still out in full force. Had to kick a car today with 2 very old ladies in it. Apparently the driver didn't remember she was passing me on the right and once she was next to me she didn't see me anymore. She then merged me into on coming traffic. Maybe she was yapping on a cell phone too. Oh Boy...It's my lucky day! |

Boy, that would be a hell of a way to go.....being taken out by a tuba! What are the odds? Definitely gotta pay attention. Even then the odds are stacked against you. Last year here in the Triple Cities (Binghamton NY region) a woman passenger was killed when her husband hit a plastic 55 gal waste can that had fallen out of a truck on Rt 17. Very sad story. |

Ok since we seem to have hi-jacked this thread, I almost got taken out by a 2ft square piece of wood panel. It was very thin but it was on a curve and would have been like ice if I ran over it at 60+mph in a hard lean. Totally low side. Plus I was following way too close so it just came up on me with no time to react. |

i hit a possum a long time ago...figured i would go down for sue but it just felt like a speed bump....at 70-musta hit 'em just right. last year I hit a racoon on my lightning- i thought that was gonna be ugly because he was big and on his hind legs-I barely got over to the left enough to miss him with the tire but he impacted my header...and cracked it. when i worked in the cycle shop i'd hear horror storied all the thime. the worst i think was the guy who hit a 12" cinderblock in the middle of the highway doin 80-the guy riding with him said his tires were at least 4 feet off the ground after the impact. He didnt make it. |

I have one piece of advice about running over critters: when you are about to hit the little bugger RELEASE THE BRAKES! I hit a bugs once and I was on the binders hard to try to stop (about 40mph). Once I squished the little guy, he was slippery and my front locked on me. It caught traction once out of bunny real estate. It was scary. ac |

I second the notion about releasing the brakes.....better yet, give it the gas hard! If anything will keep you upright it is momentum. Last season I was riding behind my buddy on his R6 when a woodchuck came out of no where right in front of him. He hit the binders hard and went ass over tea cup several times at about 50 mph. He was roughed up a bit, R6 was totaled (woodchuck didn't make it either). I firmly believe if he never hit the brakes, he be riding that R6 today, and would never have gone down. I concur I have hit a few squirrels not big but enough slippery stuff if you grab a handful you are gonna bounce. |

Definitely support the no brake theory when crossing critters. I flattened a woodchuck last year this way and all was well - for me. The woodchuck was another story. Craziest thing I've ever seen in NEW JERSEY? How about a complete Lazy Boy recliner in the middle of the fast lane. Sitting right side up, facing oncoming traffic...looked brand new in undamaged condition. Which incidentally was rush hour around dawn. |

well to the nay sayers...rt 80 is nothing but make up appling, texting, paper readers that drive so close to you with no possible way of stopping, if you sneeze you would probably hit someone |

a tuba I was like WTF is that shiny brass TUBA hey ya know what it's Jersey whach ya gonna do. Recliner I have seen on the road but not in oncoming fast lane that would have been a good one. One thing I saw was a commonplace thing but not a common area took me a minute to realize what I was looking at and where. A deer but it was on route 21 in Newark NJ go figure I wonder if someone tossed it there as a goof or actually pegged it? |

Its not just on the roads you know.I was taking off from Florida once and hit a gator on the runway which blew out one of our tires. A jet taking off from McGuire took down a large deer. |

NOW thats a scary scary scary thought. What do they do when an aircraft strikes something on takeoff ? how do you asses damage other than the obvious? |

The Sully river deal was a one off. He screwed the rest of us flyers out of our golden BB walk away from the imposssible deals. Ill settle for a flock of any birds over an Iranian SAM or an Iraqi MANPAD or some douche bag in his Bonanza flying so called VFR through NJ PA or NY anyday! |

I saw that. They were in a truck, driven by a cop at midnight. Somehow the truck rolled and somehow they were both thrown from the vehicle. ac |
